Product Description A new beginning is Watch Me Learn's first video that was produced due to parent demands! A New Beginning is a video for children who are just beginning to speak, interact and combine words. The video involves beginning language, physical gestures, gaining attention, beginning imitation - all critical skills that are necessary for further skill development. The video teaches children by modeling these skills through object identification, blowing bubble, simon says, duck duck goose, tag, ball play and more. The scenes are short to maintain a child's attention. The scenes are engaging as they are always children playing or performing an activity. Requesting, gaining someone's attention, pointing, interracting with others and more are just some of the skills that are gained from this video. This video has led to the production of 6 more videos and has proven to elicit beginning speech and actions from many developmentally delayed children. It is successful internationally, in schools, therapy centers and in homes! A great beginning tool for the child embarking on speech and socialization. Review After watching the first Watch Me Learn® video just a few times, my non-verbal daughter began saying 'hi' to the kids on TV! These videos offer a new way of learning. Incorporating ABA and Verbal Behavior techniques, Watch Me Learn® videos are motivating, educational and fun to watch! --KaraThe WML Videos were introduced to the staff of my school during a professional development seminar. Since then, every teacher in our school uses them in their classrooms on a daily basis. I have noticed such an improvement in the children from watching them. The children first imitate the actions from the video and with proper guidance generalize them to natural settings. They are also picking up words and phrases and using them in the appropriate contexts. Every time we watch, someone picks up something new. We have had parents in the class to observe and when we watch the video, they say that s where he got that from. He does that at home. Many parents have asked where to buy the videos so they can use them at home. I consider WML to be an integral part of the curriculum and I recommend it to teachers and parents. I thank you very much for creating such a wonderful series --Jill Maher, M.S. NY City SchoolsIn recommending [Watch Me Learn autism treatment videos] to parent after parent, I was overwhelmed by positive feedback. Now we are using them at the Helping Hands® Saturday Socialization Program to improve self-efficacy in game play as well as accuracy and initiations. Since videos in general are so popular for many kids, typically developing as well as kids on the Autism Spectrum, it makes sense to teach children much needed skills by letting them watch other kids that they can relate to. It is similar to the concepts we use at Helping Hands, basing social skills learning on the utilization of peer models. In this way, parents can use the videos to help teach their children how to emulate peer models. They can then generalize these skills to various settings and enjoy the games that once brought them so much anxiety! --Vanetta Larosa, Ph.D., B.C.B.A.

Great intro into DVD modeling!
Before I learned of these DVD's I had already collected the "Spectrum Connections Bounce!". Those DVD's where awesome in getting my little one to open up about her needs and wants. But I was still struggling in getting her to "connect" with me in a more personal way. This DVD shows examples of many things I was already practicing at home with my child, but for some reason it took a DVD modeling these things for it to click in her head that "hey, I can/should do this, too!!".My daughter now LOOKS at me when I ask her to! The first time she did I wanted to scream and woop for joy! (I held it in, I didn't want to startle her into not responding again). I still well up when she looks at me when I call for her.The Volume 2 DVD expands on what is taught here (you really should get both) and I luv how at the end, the creator shows one or two of her own home movies (how she started to model for her son). It has inspired me to record myself and our daily activities, too. But I won't be giving away my DVD's anytime soon!

Not good for autistic children!
This is a good concept and my child loved the videos, however, there is a child on the video that has several parts and he has a speech impediment. I later found out that my son developed that same speech problem because, as many autistic children do, he echo's / memorizes what's on the videos. Now he cannot pronounce his l's correctly among other things.... I haven't let him see these videos for about a year now and he still has the same speech problem. These videos should be taken off the market! My son has enough problems besides developing a speech impediment!

just ordered these
I just ordered a 7 dvd set from the Watch me learn website, they have a 50% off sale for school, not sure if it's a limited time offer sort of thing. It is just under 80 dollars with free shipping for 7 dvds. You could also get 5 dvds for just under 70 with, I assume, free shipping. The psychologist recommended these modeling videos when my son was evaluated and diagnosed with Autism, he is almost 6 yrs. old now. He just started kindergarten and is having a lot of trouble adjusting. I couldn't imagine paying 30 bucks per dvd, so I checked craigslist, and found the website charging 15 per dvd, but with major discounts for buying sets. I will update my reviews once I receive and use them. Save money look around! :)

Great idea, poor execution
I usually do not spend $25 for 30 minute DVD for my autistic children but figured that the high price reflects that they specifically target developmentally delayed kids and ordered the first 2 volumes. Based on others' glowing reviews, I was sure that my high functioning autistic son would love them but he glanced a couple of times and continued his play. While "Watch Me Learn" was still on, he requested another DVD. I was just as disappointed as he was. I had an impression that these DVDs are of professional quality but they look like home-made videos with background music and some animation. The kids in this DVD were years older than mine but on several occasions I myself had trouble understanding them, not only because of "speech impediment" that another reviewer mentioned but also because they did not pronounced the words clearly ("Grace" sounds like "grease", "laugh" sounds like "clap"). I thought it supposed to be "modeling" which would mean perfect pronunciation of words. I was also wondering about modeling when Mary Beth was reading a book or another "teacher" showing ABC with pictures to the group of children. Obviously, I am not going to buy the other volumes and do not recommend "Watch Me Learn" series. I also bought "Bounce" DVD series with music therapist that are also produced for autistic audience and even my low functioning non-verbal son who rarely watches anything was interested in those. I highly recommend "Bounce" to all families with autistic children.

Great video modeling video
My 2.5 year old son really loves the Watch Me Learn videos 1 and 2. He has learned how to play simon says, freeze dancing (his dancing is absolutely adorable) ring around the rosey, and lots of social vocalization. He has also perfected his game of hide and seek- we play it constantly now! Kids on the spectrum really respond well to video modeling, and it seems to help him use what he sees a lot more effectively. He's learned to replace lines he's learned from Dora and Deigo with more appropriate responses he has learned in these videos. We also own Teach2talk WH questions, and he really responds well to them as well. We also own Kibbles Rockin Clubhouse, but I think he is a little young for that one.

Amazing
I bought this DVD on the recommendation of another parent and it is the single best language video we have found. After 6 months of speech therapy we only had a dozen words. After a few days with the video he is imitating simon says and will do it from a verbal request. It has increased his receptive language and now he says "mommy"! He is engaged watching it and we are already hearing more words. I wish there were more at the beginner level.

It helps a lot!
Definitely recommend this video if your child has speech delay or if he’s having any trouble developing. My child has been trying to talk more. He has also been interacting more.
