Amazingly sharp and bright
I have been eyeing up this projector for some time. I had a BenQ about 4 years old which was a great machine, but I had to replace the lamp a couple of time. I always felt that I could not get the brightness I was looking for so I decided to make a purchase for this machine. Some of the reviews I read were not that great, so I took a chance. The quality of the viewing has increase dramatically. I thought I was good at 30K contrast ratio, but now I am at 1Million contrast ration. In fact, it was so bright that I will never watch a regular TV again as I cannot tell the difference. It's so good that I had to write a review. When I first got the package, I immediately hooked it up where my other projector was connected. I have an excellent sound system in my movie room, but I wanted to keep my budget low, but not too low. I had to make several adjustments as there was a pink spot on faces. It took several hours to really calibrate and learn the different settings. The settings that seem to be perfect are Display Mode Cinema, Gamma set to Film, Brilliant Color set to 5, Sharpness to 11, Color Temp to Cool, Brightness Mode to Constant Luminance to 85%, Wall Color Off as I have a built my screen with a nice painted very light grey. I used the same setting for gaming which are perfect. Watching football is like actually being at the game. Nothing beats great sound and an amazing picture. The picture above do not do it justice. For a low budget solution, then I highly recommend. One thing I was concerned with was the heat dissipation that others were saying, but does not seem to be an issue. I use roughly 5 to 8 hours a day.

Quality projector
Works great with a 100” projector screen. Can see videos easily during the day with even with sunlight coming in adjacent to screen from the window transit. Upscaling is very close for Blue rays to 4K. Works well for all my 3D movies. Very helpful to read manual to get optimum distance for placement of projector

Don’t buy an Optoma.
This was a great projector. Bright and had nice colors, unfortunately dead pixels started showing up. The projector is no longer under warranty and I will need to pay to have it repaired. This is the 2nd Optoma I’ve purchased and both have had dead pixels. I’ll never buy Optoma again.

Pros and cons
I use this projector for my only source of TV and have been using it everyday. Pros- picture quality is good and you can see the picture without having to shut off the lights. Cons- it's not wireless or Bluetooth capable! I have owned another projector in the past that was cheap and that had both of those. If I would have known I couldn't hook anything wireless to it , I would have not purchased it. If you are using a firestick then you can hook the speakers to that. Sound is not good and you will absolutely need a set of speakers. I wish the keystone settings would allow you to have it off centered such as a corner so you don't have to have it right in the middle. Overall it's a great product but know your setup and make sure that works with you. I am with other people on it does check all the boxes but also forgot to check the basic ones. I still give it a good rating because at the end of the day it's giving me a good picture quality

Incredible performance and value, look no further!
This Optima projector is an amazing value providing the quality and performance of units costing several thousand of dollars. The light source is a multiple diode laser designed to last approx 30,000 hours! I was a little concerned about purchasing a unit with a non replaceable light source, but after doing the research and setting up the unit, I am convinced that I made the right choice for my customer. Amazing clarity. Amazing depth and richness of color. Easy setup and configuration. This unit will serve in short and medium throw theatres while easily producing a 10 - 12 foot diagonal super bright image. Don't be scared about the $1200 price tag. This Optima projector will run circles around all the others in it's class and provide years of robust service. The design is sleek and elegant and is as well built as you can find on the market. I'd give it twelve stars if I could!

Bright and sharp, becomes defective quickly
The advantage of spending extra money on a laser projector is that it's built to last a very long time. While the bulb can't be changed, the money saved on not having to change bulbs is supposed to balance over the very long life of a laser projector. Unfortunately, the Optoma projector goes bad quickly, leaving you locked into a defective product. The brightness is amazing, orders of magnitude higher than what you've experienced with a typical home projector. The picture is sharp as well, although it doesn't handle blacks as smoothly as you might like. But less than eighteen months after purchase, the projector already had a white pixel burned in. A few months later, another followed. Ten months after that came the third. If you're thinking that you won't notice three white pixels on a screen, think again. Their actual size on the screen is large enough to notice, and for any scene that isn't an outdoor scene, you can't miss them. Anything that takes place at night and they stick out like a sore thumb. Forget horror movies; the white pixels are bright and they really kill the atmosphere. The Optoma projector would be a fine product if it didn't become defective so quickly. I read the same thing in other reviews and assumed those people had just had bad experiences that couldn't possibly have been reflective of the product on the whole. Unfortunately it seems that this is a common issue.

This is a high-resolution projector that we love. However, after three years of infrequent use, a fan blockage warning appeared, and the machine shut down automatically. We couldn't find a solution and had to send it back since it's out of the original warranty. It was a very expensive machine compared to similar products on the market, and we never expected the fan to block after such light usage. Fixing it might cost us a lot, and we are still waiting for the factory to examine it, as no one except the manufacturer knows how to repair it. Therefore I don't recommend this machine to Canadian user since the manufacture is located in USA.

Is it quiet? .......YES very quiet: This is the first time i barely noticed the projector fan running. It is on a table in my bedroom right beside me and i can barely hear it run even with movie paused. Is it bright........compared to my old LED projector ............. YES very bright: I replaced a led projector (Optoma brand 500 lumen) due to being hard to see in daylight even with curtains drawn. (works great still at night) Optoma brand has been good to me. Now with this 4000 lumen HZ39HDR i can see clearly even with sunlight spilling around the curtains. The remote: I like that this remote is "fat" it feels better in the hands unlike some other really thin flat ones. This is personal preference. Zoom: 1-1.3 times zoom is handy for placement. The projector size: Compared to all the projectors i have owned this one is massive. It's not heavy just bulky. If you want to take it to your friends on the farm for movie night make sure you have a large and secure space for travel. This seems more designed with the idea in mind to install it and leave it where it is.

for being listed at 4000 lumens I've had older standard DLP or LCD projectors claiming less lumens with more output. having a very hard time finding a good balance between brightness and colours not showing well. very dim and hard to see any dark video. everything goes so dark it's difficult to make out... not at all what I was expecting from a newer laser 4K compatible projector... just pursuing optima customer tech support, but I've worked with $100,000 Christie projectors down to $500 Ben Q and never had this much of an issue finding a happy place with brightness... remote and set up features are very limiting...

This is a very good projector!! First I had a HD20 for a few years,, than I upgrade to a HD62 with 3D capability,,, Than lately I upgrade again for this one ( HZ39HDR. I find the image colour much better and more define, with deeper blacks. The image latency is also faster. It uses less power ( better efficiency) and the fan noise is quieter. The reliability of this projector is suppose to be 10 x better with a MTBF of 20000 hours on the light source ( laser instead of lamp) Overall it is a 10/10!!
