Keeps me from sliding out of my office chair
This is an expensive mat but it solved the problem of me or my wife sliding out of our leather office chair. The chair has a slight forward lean and it is just enough to cause you to slide your butt off the seat. I put this pad down and we sit on it. The mat effectively grips against the chair leather and creates enough friction to keep whomever is seated from sliding forward. For the purpose it looks great, but looks a little weird.Note to the company making them: There is a big product opportunity making these with a more rounded shape suited a good looking office chair base. Take one to an office supply place, figure out the common chair seat dimensions and make them in colors to fit. You'll fill an unfulfilled product need. Your mat is great for this.

Dycem, THANK YOU
I really like this pad. I wish I had one a long time ago & I know I'm going to get more. I'm handicapped & 81. There are so many uses for one of these for someone like me. Tightening & untightening lids, making things stay put on the counter-top while preparing food. making dishes stay put on the table while eating. I tried eating ice cream in a paper bowl on a TV tray one time. What a joke! I only have use of one hand, so I was chasing it all over the place. finally had to put the bowl in my lap, spilled ice cream, not good. Now ANYTHING on a TV tray STAYS PUT . One side is plain & one has a faint pattern. Both sides seem to stick equally well to whatever they're in contact with.

Expensive but useful (and there are no alternatives)
As an occupational therapist I have long recommended Dycem products for my patients. On this occasion I purchased this for my elderly mother who has lost the use of one of her hands. This is an enormous pad that is great for a counter or table. This helps her keep things from sliding around as she works with them. No, it won't magically remove her difficulties--just reduce them a bit.If there is any drawback on any Dycem product it is the cost. If there was a greater consumer demand or product competition, they would be less expensive, but as a niche product, I'm simply glad its available.

Great anti slip aid.
I got this for another purpose than placemat. I sit on it. I’m in a wheelchair & some fabrics are slippery & I sometimes slide in my chair because of it. And used for mat for floor so feet don’t slip during transfers. Love it! I’ve seen/used the colorful thinner Dycem in Rehab. This is thicker- more substantial and I prefer the black over the loud colors. Wish I bought this years ago.

Do not hesitate to order this item
I've primarily used these in schools with students who have difficulty self-feeding. Recently, I purchased it for a relative who had a stroke. The Dycem mat keeps his bowl perfectly still so that he can self-feed (which is so important because self-feeding triggers the brain to begin the digestive process...which is important when there is a risk of aspiration. The mat is easy to wash and worth the money.

Started out fine, but after a week or two it began ...
Started out fine, but after a week or two it began "puckering" and now will not lay flat. With extended time in very hot water, then dried and pressed to a surface, it will lay flat - until the first time you lift something from it, and then a section will lift into a puckered edge. Re-flattening it becomes like a game of Whack-a-Mole, with new puckers rising each time one is flattened.

Easy to use, need many.
This is one of the most useful item known to man (and woman)l Using a non-slip pad like these may not be high decoration, but on a scale of one to ten for a great product, I give them at least a nine. You will want to use one on any surface where there will be liquids or breakables.
