Matthew Henry's Commentary on the Whole Bible: New Modern Edition [6 volume - Set] Hardcover – Unabridged, June 9, 2009

This is a wonderful supplement to the Bible. Nothing is better than the original Scripture, of course, but these commentaries help flesh out the Word and point out things that might have been overlooked or were confusing. Henry goes into quite a bit of depth. Drawbacks? It uses the King James Version so it is a little more difficult to read, and his choice of vocabulary and sentence structure is at times along those lines as well. But what you get out of it makes it well worth it to spend the extra time to read it carefully. The insights provided are valuable. The other drawback is the tiny print used in this edition but at least for me it is still readable with my reading glasses and I figure if it had been done in normal sized print, the books would be a lot more voluminous and expensive. These commentaries are well worth the what I'd say is very reasonable price that is charged.

These volumes are fairly small, but the text is not too small. I was worried that, being written in the 18th century, I would not be able to understand some of it, but Henry's commentaries are quite understandable and well-organized. I love the robust commentary as he goes through each chapter and verse of the entire Bible. This is the first commentary I've owned (I know there are lots out there). I'm glad I purchased it. It brings a lot of the Bible to life in ways I could not fathom. Henry is a creative thinker, and uses analogies, links to other passages, and spiritual lessons to discuss each passage. You cannot help but profit from such a compendium!

Excellent, well detailed commentary. I’m able to really dive into the content of my Bible and dissect the Word. Lots of scriptural references and historical knowledge to explain Bible verses. This is a great buy for anyone looking to get a deeper understanding of the Bible.Only drawback - the print is tiny. Looks like maybe a size 9 Typewriter-like font. I’m a millennial with contact lenses; I doubt my mom would be able to use this. I have never seen print so small in a book - looks almost like a book of footnotes. Beware if you have trouble reading fine print.Other than that, the content itself is superb.

The commentary series has met well with my expectations. I've always relied on the epub copy of the book - very excited to finally own my physical copy. Thanks!

Beautiful collection, looks great on the bookshelf, and Matthew Henry always has such wonderful insight into the biblical text. The formatting, and the size of the text is an issue, I understand that Henry has quite a bit of commentary (especially going through the whole Bible, duh) but it was a noteworthy struggle, I would often get lost while consoling the work

These books are an excellent Biblical resource for insight into the Word of God.

This is our second set. Great content. We bought it for our son-in-law to start his pastoral library.
