AMACO Potter's Choice PC-55 Chun Plum Red is a 16 oz. liquid ceramic glaze designed for mid-high fire (Cone 5-6) oxidation firings. It delivers a translucent pink-red finish that mimics Asian copper reds, breaking light tan over textured surfaces. This glaze layers beautifully over other AMACO glazes, enabling artists to achieve warm, complex tones without the need for reduction gas kilns. Compatible with all AMACO stoneware and porcelain clays, itās a top choice for potters seeking vibrant, reliable color in electric kiln firings.

Great glittery black for high fire
Love this glaze. I use it at a community kiln fired to cone 6, and with 4 coats it came out great on several projects. Cool shimmery black that breaks dark bronze on texture. I did not have any issues with this glaze running (which I definitely can't say the same for some of the other "Cosmic" glazes).

Great glaze
Amaco does not fail. Bought from Blick Art Materials if I remember correctly-they are my go to for glazes. Fired at cone 6 in an electric kiln, lovely flow, breaks beautifully and for my purposes benefits from three coats generously applied. Love this!

Shimmery
I love the color of this glaze. Itās like a glittery black. Very high gloss and shimmery. I like to add reds and gold to give a great color combo when using this.

Beautiful glittery glaze!
Such a beautiful glaze! The more coats the darker it looks. Its the dark base.

Sparkly, a little temperamental, but worth the buy.
This is one of my favorite glazes to work with but it can also be temperamental. It works well over the Obsidian celadon by the same manufacturer! Hereās some tips for the best outcome: Thoroughly stir the jar before each layer. Allow each layer to dry evenly before the next layer. Apply at least four layers. This glaze is translucent brown with shimmer, and becomes more solid and sparkly the thicker it goes on. In my testing, 4-6 layers seem to be the sweet spot. Most of all, have fun! This is definitely a glaze youāll need to test, but itās beautiful when it comes out right. š§š»āāļø

Good consistency
Good consistency. Honey flux adds a great touch when layering. Canāt wait to layer this with other Amaco glazes to achieve more color variations.

Not like the picture, but not bad
I read all the comments here before buying, so I know it was a gamble. But Iāve really been wanting to try getting a gold accent on the rims of a few cylinder I slab built. I started out with test tiles of 3, 4, 5, and 6 layers. All remained the dark brown color that others have mentioned, with a slight luster under bright light. Disappointing, but not surprising given the reviews. I also realized I applied layers way too thin. So I tried the rims and applied THICK layers. Unfortunately, this meant that the wet glaze dripped in some places. Itās very dark when applying, so very messy trying to wipe it back without smearing everywhere. I even tried dipping layers on the cylinders (and holding them upside down for several minutes so they wouldnāt run). In total, I brushed on probably 5 layers and dipped 2-3 additional layers (I lost count at some point). I also had a small (~4 in wide) bowl that I was happy to use as a tester. I applied ~6 THICK layers brushed on. All were fired at Cone 6. On the cylinders, where the glaze was brushed on (thicker band) remained very dark brown-black while the dipped band got a little lighter, still a dark brown with a little luster. On the bowl, the color came out a dark copper (think old penny, not new penny) with satin/ matte finish. Similar to the other review where they posted a photo of the inside of a mug. My takeaways: - Apply 5-6 THICK layers - Works better on a larger area - Have realistic expectations. Look at other photos online that show various thickness of application and layering. - Know that the picture here on Amazon, which is the picture from the label, is NOT what youāre likely to get after firing. That said, if youāre looking for a satin matte dark copper, this one is great!
