Absolutely wonderful healthy barbecue recipes for people with pre-diabetes and diabetes
I purchased this book because I was borderline diabetic. I love to barbecue, and I thought this book would give me some good recipes that were also healthy. The first recipe I cooked from this cookbook was pork tenderloins with spicy maple bourbon glaze. As its name suggests, this is on believably good. Although it does contain maple syrup it’s a minor amount. The meal has only 195 cal per serving. That recipe alone is one reason to purchase this cookbook! Another great recipe is grilled Hawaiian chicken with pineapple and Canadian bacon. Pretty hard to believe that that is a healthy recipe but it is only 265 cal and no trans fat.This cookbook has a variety of international foods and the recipes are extremely easy to follow with very simple instructions. Even if you’re not the best of cook, or barbecue person, you could really master anything in here. There are a lot of sauce recipes in here too and if you barbecue, you know how important that is.There’s also a lot of good tips for barbecuing and explaining a lot of things on the proper way of preparing Food and grilling it. One thing about many cookbooks, they have ingredientsthat you would not have in the kitchen or have no idea what they even are.Each recipe lists calories, trans fat, sugar and everything else you need to know about the meal. Chef Steve Petusevsky’s recipe ingredients are pretty much everything that you would have in the kitchen already. There are no exotic ingredients or spices, just basic every day items.I have sampled quite a few of the recipes in this cookbook, and I will say they have a great robust flavor and I have enjoyed every recipe that I tried. I read where that pre-diabetes is almost an epidemic in our country. A good way to beat it, is to lose weight, but that seems to be a problem with a lot of us.With this Sizzle &Smoke cookbook, you will at least eat good, eat healthy, have less calorie intake, and With proper portions, be able to lose some weight and still enjoy life and food as you do now. This is absolutely a wonderful cookbook, and I love the fact that it was written for people with pre-diabetes, diabetes, and it is heart healthy. I would highly recommend this cookbook even if you don’t barbecue as once you make a few of these recipes, you will be addicted to grilling. Also may I add, that my last trip to the doctor I have beat pre-diabetes. I did it with portion control, yet still eating food that I love such as the recipes from this book and achieved a thirty pound weight loss. I purchased this book 6 months ago.

Very Impressive "Niche" BBQ Book
I'm very impressed by this book! The book has a very specific point of view, and is for a very specific audience, but commits to that 100% and does it really well.The book spends very little effort on talking about techniques. And although "Smoke" is in the title, the assumption seems to be that these dishes will be prepared on a charcoal or propane grill (as opposed to a smoker). What the book does really well though is provide lots and lots of delicious looking dishes, with good pictures, good instructions, and complete nutritional information (which is huge). It lets people with such dietary restrictions enjoy these dishes, but be able to plan it out so that it works for them.You won't find recipes for ribs, or pork butt, or beef brisket. What you will find though is lots and lots of recipes for grilled chicken, fish, shrimp, and even some other pork dishes. You also won't find any recipes for chocolate cake or pie or anything like that, but instead lots of recipes for different grilled fruit dishes (that I'm very anxious to try!).Great book for diabetics. It's exactly what you would want as a diabetic who wants to grill. Lots of ideas that "work", all the dietary information about colories and carbs and fat, and just as importantly serving sizes for things. Excellent info. Highly recommended.

Excellent gift for low-carber
My brother likes to grill and cook bbq, but is watching his sugar. He loved this cookbook as a gift and was pleased with the variety of recipes inside. The inside is full color.

Being a diabetic I was excecting more on the science of making diabetic friendly food, sauces and rubs but it did very little of that.

Simple yet tasty recipes

You will never know that his recipes are designed to be healthy, good for those with heart conditions and diabetes. The recipes range from meats to seafood, from sauces to vegetables, and even deserts.Here are my annotations on the table on content:1. RUB, SOAK, AND SAVORIn this chapter Chef Petusevsky concentrates on what you rub on the things you grill. In this section the ideas come from all over the world (Turkey, China, Italy and many others). So far I tried Madrus Curry Marinade, it is a little spicy and a little tart and added a unique flavor to grilled chicken I made.2. CENTER OF THE PLATEThis is a big chapter about varius proteins: meats, seafood, chicken, turkey.3. OVER THE TOPThis chapter is all about salsas and other toppers for the grilled main dish.4. SIDEKICKSIn this section you will find 30 side dishes. Some are very simple others are unique and interesting.5. DESSERTSMost deserts are fruits with the exception of one Dark Chocolate recipe. And yes, this all about grilled fruits. I have to admit to never grilling fruits before, I have tried a couple of these recipies and I am a convert! Grilled peaches over ice scream are my favorite.I like how this cookbook organized. It has a lot of pictures to give you an idea of what the dishes look like and to inspire you. The edges of pages in different chapters have different colors, so if you are looking for main dishes, you know exactly which pages to look through without even looking at the index.I received a review copy of this book.Ali Julia review
