I was looking for mental silence, and I found it. Your learning style will determine how much you like this.
I picked this book because silence was what I was looking for and I found it in this book. It is a book on the subject of mindfulness. To skip to the point, if you have a learning style that requires structure, you can find a better book. If you have a learning style where you pick up things in bursts of activity whenever you can devote time to the subject, you will like this book.I discovered mindfulness after watching a video on YouTube with Jon Kabat Zin hosting a session he held at Google. I picked up his book Full Catastrophe Living. It read to me like enthusiastic 8 week boot camp that you have to follow or you feel like your doing it wrong in spite of the authors best efforts to remind you that you cannot truly do it wrong. I don't see this necessary as wrong approach. I've seen there are 8 week classes out there and my suspicion this would work better as a class rather than self taught. This would be the structured approach I was referring too and as a result I recommend this book for those sorts of learners.Ultimately I wasn't really interested in meditation. I was looking for a way to quiet my world. They are many paths to achieve the quiet I was looking for, that I'm certain. So far none had seemed to work. Never has a book had a title so appropriately for what I was looking for. So naturally I snatched it up. I found Hanh's methods to be simpler to apply than Zinn's. They didn't feel like homework assignments. There was no suggested pacing to imply that after so many weeks you have everything you need. Rather than encouraging one to set aside 30 minutes a day, as you progress through the book you eventually learn enough to practice mindfulness all day so should you chose. Hanh trying to help you shut off the Non Stop Radio in your head and 30 minutes a day doesn't help. You need a method that you can use whenever you need to shut that radio off. This felt more natural and was more useful. It was more helpful as I could practice this not only when ever I wanted, but whenever I needed.

The best Thich Nhat Hanh book I've read in some time
I liked the calm, even pace. I find it soothing just to read Thay's words. I recommend this to anyone who occasionally feels overwhelmed and wants to cultivate a gentler inner voice. I chose this rating because I believe that the more people who read Thich Nhat Hanh, the better the world will become.

This book is a life changing reminder of the power of tuning into one's inner silence. I read a little bit of it every night before sleeping. No more insomnia for me as I listen to my silence and drift into sweet dreams. The book is also helpful for being on purpose to take the time to simply listen to nature. I will keep re-reading this one.

Amazing testimonial from Thich Nhat Hanh regarding the power of Silence. I have been trying to imitate some of his daily practices but have some problems with old habits. I still watch television while I eat because I live alone. If you do not watch TV and concentrate on your food than it tastes so much better.

Wonderful as always but.....
Wonderful teaching as always from Thay but i have noticed a few times with his more recent books much of the material has been covered in other books. I guess that’s the beauty of these teachings; they are adaptable to all areas of life, however if you have many other books by this author you will probably have the material already. That said I highly recommended studying this wonderful mans teachings and if you are new to his words start with the Miracle Of Mindfulness as that book is a great foundation for building your practice.

This book is a joy to read
This book is a joy to read. It makes it ok to want some peace and quiet also solitude, without feeling you are being unsociable. It also explains why we need to in this busy, technological world we live in.

easily digestible tome
Very wise advice, compiled in a small, easily digestible tome. It's best read one chapter at a time so you can fully absorb the advice inside, however, you could definitely breeze through it in one evening.

Another classic!
Inspiring reading about something we tend to overlook in today's busy, fast-paced living. 'Silence' is a powerful tool for balance at our disposal and this book is equally important. I think it'll prove another classic from 'Thay' Nhat Hanh - one of the many!

The Now that shall never leave you Alone.
I have always been wandering seeking companionship and validation from the outside world and people,. Struggling to achieve something, to be someone....reading this book, i realize Everything lies deep inside me; in my solitude and in my silence, i need no one's companionship or validation. Every one will leave us and go but our inner Solitude shall never desert us. To want nothing is to have everything. And now i want to go Silent.Loved the concept of Mindfulness. To be here in the now. To live the moment. Fearlessly, fully, carefree...
