Short Takes: Brief Encounters with Contemporary Nonfiction

I used so many of the stories in this book as writing prompts for my Creative Writing class when we were studying creative nonfiction. Several of the stories were requested as repeats. Students especially loved the idea of the alphabetical perception of fathers. The book has been borrowed and used by other teachers too but I'll be glad to get it back and have time to read these wonderful stories.

A very nice nice collection of essays! They are short and sweet.

I love this book and go back to it over and over for inspiration for my own writing. I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in the human psyche and who appreciates well-crafted essays. Each piece has uniquely interesting content by experts in the nonfiction form.

The pieces in this anthology have no commentary, no organization.Formless excerpts from books are mixed together with crafted essays. Most seemed like mere anecdotes.I was looking for models of short writing and found precious few that I liked.

I bought this text and its companion for my creative writing course, and it has been a real winner with my students. It's off the shelf far more than it's on it - they love reading it and getting ideas for their own creative non-fiction writing.

Being used as a text for readings in my Memoir Writing class. I am enjoying the collection of different writing styles and topics.

I paid for a NEW book not one with a coffee stain or whatever this is. I want a refund ASAP.
