Virbac C.E.T. HEXtra Premium Oral Hygiene Chews, Medium Dog, 30 Count

I have 2 male Cavaliers, 25lbs. and 12 lbs. Even though my bigger and older (2007) dog gets yearly vet cleanings he still gets bad breath. The smaller and younger (2010) dog doesn't have bad breath or teeth - yet. My vet actually recommended this product and sells it because it contains "Chlorhexidine" which is an active ingredient for good teeth and breath. I then discovered that Amazon had the identical product for substantially less money. These "chips" sub for the occasional rawhide treats and keep the guys busy and they really like them. I buy the medium size chips which in size but are generally 2-3" square, unequally made, and I usually by two bags at a time b/c I know I'm going to repurchase when I run out. I strongly believe the chews have improved my dog's breath. Be forewarned that these chips initially have a strong, pungent odor which helps the breath and goes away as the dog eats it. The chips absolutely do not leave stains on fabric which is really important since they eat them on the bed. The dogs eventually consume the entire chip and over time I've come to like the odd smell. The only thing I dislike about the product is the packaging which is a sturdy plastic-like resealable bag. Much of the time the seal is so tight it takes awhile to finally get the bag open. It is a minor complaint and I suppose that it's better to have a tight fit but when the dogs see the bad they want those chips and they're barking and so on.... It needs a zipper grip.

These chews are amazing. I have a golden puppy named Rosie and our vet recommended them for a chew and they do wonders. They always last more than 2-3 hours and up to a few days and the flavor goes through the whole thing. They are fully digestible and actually give us time to go do somthing else while she eats them. They price is also great on these for CET chews!

I let my 6 small dogs chew on these only with my in the same room and only for small amounts of time. (5-10 min) They love the C.E.T oral bones and get excited when I take them out. I bought the medium size bones and I am glad I did because they are still pretty small. Next time I might even go with the larger ones. I don't want any of the dogs to try to swallow them. They are rawhide but are suppose to break down because of the enzymes. Regular rawhides do not breakdown so I don't give them regular rawhide at all. Our vet said these were ok to give in small amounts. I have 3 poms and 3 chihuahuas. Their breath smells good and it helps keep their teeth clean. Small dogs usually have teeth issues.

My dog has to have flavor on her chews and these are perfect. They have cleaned her teeth so well.

Dog loves them, and they clean her teeth. Every dog should have one, once a day. Don't necessarily go by the dog size when selecting which size to get for your pup. I buy one size smaller than recommended for my dog's weight, and I think that is a much bigger bang for the buck. Dog just loves loves loves them. Oh and a quick funny story - I found a dog the other day, and while trying to find her owner she wandered over to the pantry (which was open), and she was sniffing around, just seeing what was in there when she found this bag on the floor, which was also open,and next thing I know there goes this 60lb basset walking out with a chew in her mouth, looking for a nice place to sit and chew her prize... so then I had to give my dog one too to keep things even. lol. They work and are great for doggie oral care.

We have a five year old pomeranian that was rescued from a puppy mill. When we got her a little over a year ago, her teeth were encased in plaque. The vet cleaned her teeth and they were as good as new... until the plaque started coming back. We then assumed that she would need teeth cleaning every year, but we were wrong. The worst part about the plaque was it caused her breath to smell absolutely nasty. These dental chews not only clean her teeth better than our feeble attempts at brushing, but they also leave a somewhat pleasant scent. The chews themselves are cut into pieces 2-3 inches in length and width. The thicker ones our dog can never get through, but it is the coating and the chewing that cleans the teeth. After a few days we will through the larger pieces out. The thinner pieces our dog can actually chew up, so we watch her more carefully with those. We had tried one of the  C.E.T. Enzymatic Oral Hygiene Chews for Petite Dogs, 30 Chews  since our dog is only 8 lbs, but found that those were way too easy to break as they are pressed rawhide bits. She was able to swallow large sharp chunks of it until she vomited. The medium treats are solid rawhide, which means she can't break off hard chunks (her saliva softens it first). Unless your dog is teacup sized or smaller I would recommend these. The chews themselves smell a bit funny with the Chlorhexdrine coating, but they make her breath tolerable. The reason for only four stars is that when the chews are wet with saliva the coating can leave brown residue on fabric and carpet. We only let her chew on her bed so we can easily wash it - not a huge deal but something to consider. We will definitely be buying again to help save her teeth and save us from the vet bills.
