Works on Yotes
I had a serious coyote problem. I have a large coop and free range area that is fenced in with 8 foot fences. One night my coop auto door malfunctioned and a yote got in and kill half my chickens. Then intermittently over the course of the next two months two more yotes hoped over the fence and killed a few more. The worse is the last two did it in the middle of the day. I tried a whole bunch of things, and nothing worked.I was in the brink of either getting rid of the chickens (no way I am going to let the yotes win) or buy a 6 thousand dollar roller system. After researching the roller system I realized that the way they are getting over is jumping up the side of the fence and pulling themselves over. I decided I would give one last shot at keeping them out of the yard with lower expense and bought these spikes because they are ridged and can handle full sun. Imagine my surprise when three days later I found droplets of blood all over the spikes and not a single chicken dead. It's been almost a year now and all my ducks and chickens are thriving.Oh and side note, they spray paint easily, so if brown isn't your color, easy enough to spray paint them something else.

Stops bird droppings and keeps our windows clean
We have bump outs framing windows on our stucco house, and birds like to sit on the bumpouts that are close to the porch roof and the eaves because it provides them protection from the elements. This meant our windows had poop streaks down them all the time.I'd seen metal spike deterrent with bird nests in them and we didn't like the idea of having short metal spikes all over our house. So I decided to give these a try. I'm glad I did!A year later, we've not had a single bird dropping on the bump outs I put these on. I'm buying more to put above other windows and along our roof line that overhangs our partially covered deck. There's regularly a line of droppings on deck and these should fix that. All I needed was a little liquid nails all whether adhesive and these were a piece of cake to install. Bonus for us is that they match the color of our trim and you don't even notice the spikes are there.

Good job. Pretty useful.
Exactly what I was expecting.

No more raccoon latrine
Raccoons have been using the crook of our huge white oak tree as a latrine for years. The crook is at least 15 feet off the ground and the tree is very close to our outdoor eating area. It's difficult to get up there and clean it out, not to mention disgusting and dangerous. We tried spraying the crook with the usual scent deterrents like hot pepper spray and nothing worked. The raccoons prefer to climb the tree from an adjacent fence. We bought two boxes of Defender Spikes and covered the fence top nearest the tree. Then we added a bit of chicken wire as an extra barrier and used heavy duty aluminum foil to create a baffle around the tree trunk. Success! The raccoons have been evicted from the tree and we no longer have to deal with raccoon poop. The aluminum foil baffle was a long shot but it works. The spikes don't seem to be bothering the squirrels but that isn't a problem for us. Great product that solved a really big problem. Edited September 10, 2020. The spikes are still working great but the raccoons have defeated the tinfoil baffle. It kept them out of the tree for a few weeks but they are determined. Next step is to wrap the tree trunk with a metal baffle.

If my cats could extend their middle finger and laugh, they would..
In the first hour, my cats laughed at me by sitting directly on these spikes. It's like they enjoyed it.The fatter of the two noticed that when she sat on them, they moved a little... so then they would just flick them off.The birds on the window just stand on the spikes. They look ominous enough and are well made. They feel sharp to the touch The plastic is thick. Their design is nice and they stack very neatly. But, at least with the animal kingdom in my immediate vicinity (who appear to be masochists), they are ineffective.

The Birds Are Gone !!!
I had 10" X 10" cedar columns installed to support the front and rear porch roofs for my new home. Only about 50% of the top of the column was needed for the cross members, which left a flat area which provided an ideal place for birds to build their nests :-( . I needed to find a way to stop them from moving in and did not want to use anything (like chemicals) that would harm them or myself. At first, I placed partially filled plastic water jugs on top of the columns, but my wife wasn't too thrilled about that, so I started searching for a solution. I found the Paul's Pest Spikes and decided to take a chance. What a great decision !!!I Not only are they well made, but they fit PERFECTLY on top of the columns. I used drywall screws to secure them using the holes already drilled in them (could have use silicone caulk also). At this time, the birds have moved along and we are thrilled.

Doesn't work on raccoons
The product is a good idea, shipped well, and packaged well. It is a hard plastic and relatively pointy. I would suggest gloves when handling. It may work on smaller animals. However, it did not deter a raccoon as advertised. See attached picture. This raccoon has been pooping on the top step of my pool for weeks. I screwed the spikes to a board to prevent access to the step, but the raccoon is able to walk right on the spikes. So from a raccoon deterrence standpoint, these spikes did not work for me.

Not up in here! Stormy the cat got shut down!
It's hummdinger season and all my little friends have migrated back from their winter adventures. Of course my cat Stormy Tsunami was more than thrilled cause it means hunting season for her. My cat would hunt the hummingbirds off the railing. She never use to before but finally figured it out. This product has saved them from carnage. She does not dare got on there anymore. They have really good durable points and keep her away. Super easy to but on your railing. So everyone is happy and healthy - well maybe not Stormy Tsunami. At least my little friends are.
