Review: A great upgrade - One of my mini Mag-Lites was damaged by battery leakage on the spring and would no longer power on. I purchased the Nite Ize not only for the LED feature but also to replace the bottom cap assembly. This solution was less expensive than purchasing the OEM part, and gave me a much brighter flashlight as well! Installing the bulb consists of unscrewing the head of the flashlight, pulling out the bulb and conical reflector and replacing these items with the new parts. It's important to note that the freely turning base disk that holds the original bulb does not come out (it even says "do not remove"), even though the new LED comes with its own similar-looking disc. I mistakenly thought that the new disk would replace the old one, but unfortunately it doesn't work this way; the new disk, with the LED embedded into it, presses into the old disk and thus the bulb assembly is now about 2mm longer than before. If it doesn't work at first, you need to pull it out again and reverse the position to reverse the polarity; you have a 50% chance of getting it right the first time. Then you replace the head of the flashlight and screw it on as much as it allows, which you should be aware is less than before. To turn on the flashlight, you either use the new button on the base or the regular twist-on switch. I love the button because it allows me to switch on the flashlight with one hand, convenient when my other hand is holding a screwdriver or whatever. Others have noted that the button seems flimsy. I've only had this unit a few days so cannot comment on its long term serviceability but for now it works great. If you store your new, improved Mag Mini in your glove compartment, I would recommend twisting it off, because the button is fairly sensitive and it might switch on while bouncing and rolling around. The LED makes the flashlight brighter than before, but not quite as bright as a regular LED Mag Mini. Is it worth the money? I think so. Some of these cheaper LED flashlights seem to die after a few weeks of use, whereas the Mags just keep on working (until the battery leaks).
Review: I don't know how I lived without this! - I've used a Mini Mag-lights with two AA batteries for many years. They are sturdy and reliable. The incandescent bulb in the original version eventually burns out, but there's always been a spare in the tail end cap (until you use that one and then forget to replace it). One thing I never liked was that, to turn the light on or off, one had to twist the headpiece, which changed the focus of the flashlight. I bought this kit over a year ago, and I have to say it's a great retrofit. The kit includes a replacement reflector, an LED bulb, and a tail cap with a pushbutton switch in it. It just takes a couple of minutes to install. The light is about 100% brighter, the bulb has lasted much longer than incandescent bulbs did (maybe it'll last forever), the batteries last much longer, and there's no more de-focusing to turn on and off. My opinion: all positives, no negatives, and it pays for itself quickly in reduced battery and bulb replacement costs.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can I forgo the endcap switch and continue using the focus beam to turn off and on.**
A: From my experience with this product I would not recommend to ever turn the head of the flashlight to focus light beam after installing upgrade! Reason is overtime turning the Mini Mag-Lite beam focus part tends to twist the LED connectors and ultimately damages it to where it will either flicker or not work at all. I have taken this item back to Home Depot 2 times to only have the same results again. Then I wrote to Nite-Ize about the problems and they sent out several replacements and several smart switches for my troubles. Then another problem arose from the smart switch! There is a red LED light that flashes on the smart switch to show that it's in use. It's also there to see if you drop the flashlight in the dark to locate it. Because it is always on, the switch will drain the batteries completely dead. So to fix the problem, you need to turn the Mini Mag-Lite off by twisting the neck part. Now going back to my original problem, turning the neck is what will kill your LED upgrade, so installing the smart switch will cause you to constantly replace batteries or turn it off at the neck and kill the LED upgrade. Their LED upgrade for the D-cell Mag-Lite's completely different story, you replace the lightbulb with an exact lightbulb style LED. There isn't any upgrade parts to replace to allow for this upgrade, unlike the light reflector that comes with the Mini Mag-Lite upgrade kit. You just unscrew the part that holds the bulb in place on the D-cell Mag-Lite, replace the bulb with the LED upgrade bulb and screw the part that holds it in place back, that's it! Anyway, it's a great way to make a Mag-Lite even better, by using this upgrade! Just keep in mind that it is extremely fragile and can be broken easily if you use it in a normal fashion, which is crazy!

**Q: package quanity lists 2 options, my question is what's the difference between "in stock " and "new" other than price?**
A: There is really no difference, other than price, except when you click new you will have a choice between other sellers, which offer different pricing.

**Q: Does it work with this model?http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005UUSAAM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1**
A: Worked well for two mini Maglites I had. The newer Nite Ize uses a better pushbutton switch; the older one was too easy to trigger. Either way, the pushbutton is a nice improvement over twist-on, twist-off. The light is significantly brighter and batteries last a lot longer. If you're buying a new Mag, get the LED model. If you have one or more older Mag minis and they still work, then this is a reasonable upgrade for $9.

**Q: If I retrofit the clicker on/off button will the flashlight still fit through a Maglite sheath?**
A: Yes this will fit the retro. It works so much better then turning the head. With this clicker and the LED build, it is so much better. I did not want to give up my purple Mag flashlight. It is worth the buy

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Breathes new life into an old flashlight
*by Z***L on November 9, 2020*

I had a couple of aluminum-bodies flashlights that were given to me as part of a promotional deal (think Mag-Lite knockoffs). The quality was nothing to brag about but they were a convenient size to keep in a tool pouch, and I wouldn't be upset if one got lost, stolen, or mangled. But they use incandescent bulbs, which are really just tiny battery discharging machines that happen to give off a feeble glow. I took a $6 gamble on this kit and I'm glad I did. It replaced all of the existing flashlight hardware with no modifications. Now I have a slender flashlight with a pushbutton switch on the end cap (my personal preference). I bought another kit and converted a second flashlight to keep in the car. Sounds pretty good, right? Well, don't get too excited just yet. The single LED isn't exactly a spotlight. A cheap, $1 multi-led flashlight from any of the usual sources will be brighter, and the switch on the endcap has a habit of clicking itself on when you shove it into a pocket or pouch. Since I keep mine as backups, I have one battery turned around inside the flashlight body. The light won't work until you turn the reverse-polarity battery around again, but you also won't drain the batteries down if you accidentally click the switch. This kit isn't a magic bullet that will turn your obsolete Mag Lite into a zillion-lumen torch. It's an inexpensive way to turn that old Mag Lite (or perhaps a clone) into a durable, reasonably bright, battery-conserving light that's handy to have around.
