This is cool! A real Cold Steel brute! Good heft! I’m sure it’s strong enough to take heavy use! Very versatile and is damn sharp for a machete chopper! A very elegant blade to boot! I scored it for $29 and some cents! A great deal!

This is a amazing tool for cutting down bushes, trees, light metal sheets, barbed wire, and will easily go through meat and bone all while keeping a nice edge. It's lightweight but extremely durable design has survived a house fire and years of my abuse without bending or breaking and can still be used for a affordable price I've gotten two because after the house fire the handle bubbled a I couldn't sand it down correctly this is my chosen zombie apocalypse weapon

I had high expectations for this machete, based on the positive reviews I have seen. It did not disappoint. The blade arrived with adequate sharpening. The blade was well finished. Thus far it has handled all the tasks I have thrown at it with relative ease. To make this review a little more helpful, I will give a little more detail about this machetes performance and quality. STEEL QUALITY This machete is made out of 1055 Carbon steel. It holds an edge well. When in use, this steel is just flexible enough to avoid breaking without compromising performance. It wouldn't be easy break the blade on the Cold Steel Cutlass Machete. For what you pay, I believe this machete's steel quality is astounding. BALANCE It's a cutlass. As such, it isn't usually a very balanced weapon. But I found no difficulty maneuvering the machete during use. I would say that while the balance is not perfect, it does not detract from the functionality of this machete. PRACTICAL PERFORMANCE When subjected to abuse, this machete delivers. If you need a machete that you can abuse, the Cold Steel Cutlass is the machete for you. It's simple to use, maintain, and performs typical tasks with ease. I was able to cut through a one and a half inch thick wooden stick with one blow. That's pretty good for a machete that costs about $30. OVERALL VALUE Taking into account the price tag for this machete, I am convinced that this machete is an amazing value. It does everything you could plausibly expect it to do. It's made out of good steel, it handles well, and is priced well. All in all, I am convinced that you will not find many machetes that are a better value than this one. I own swords (including an ordinary cutlass), and this machete performs more like a sword than a machete. It is truly a joy to use the Cold Steel Cutlass Machete. I hope this review was helpful. Just got it. First impressions: Long machete in a cutlass form. The 24" blade has a noticeable reach advantage over an 18" blade machete. Yes, I know that a 24" blade is longer than an 18" one but that difference really shows up IRL. Decently sharpened from the factory, waaaay better sharpening than is typical on a budget machete. There is a slight wobble/dip in the sharpened edge but the blade still cut pretty cleanly through the plastic shipping bag. And the sharpening is even and centered on the blade, with nice even bevels except for the mentioned wobble/dip and the sharpening was not done with a rock, brick, or 36 grit abrasive. The handle is a hard plastic with a roomy knuckle bow guard. The guard is solid and doesn't deflect or bend when pressed on. The listing says that the blade steel is 1055 carbon steel, but the printed hang tag says that the steel is 65Mn steel. Similar but not quite the same thing. I'll have to see how the steel holds up in use. I've run out of daylight, so cutting performance, handling, and ergonomics will have to wait until another day. I'm giving it a 4/5 for now, probably could be a 4.5/5. I'll update this review and the rating after I use it at least a little bit. More to come ...

If I could give this machete sword 10 stars I would!!! I just received this when I got home from work. Pulled it out of the package. Which I was a little disappointed about that. ( I ordered a 6 inch cast iron skillet, also with Amazon being the fulfiller of the sale, but, the box was way to big for the 2 items with lots! of room to move around with no bubble wrap of any kind, and there was a big whole punched in the side.... be careful what you order in the same session... Luckily nothing was damaged though. So it's no big deal. Could have been a big deal though, so just be cautious.) But, anyways, I pulled the sword out and from first sight you can tell this thing is a SOLID! tool. Very well built, sleek, great handle, great machete balance, a couple inches up from the handle, and VERY sharp out of the box. The sheath is nice, functional, holds the blade tight. I was thrilled to say the least... So I went out and did some yard work (after a 10 hour work day in construction) that's how eager I was to try this thing... Well I trimmed the headges all around my house and hacked away at a massive amount of Kudzu vines, which have takin over a lot of yards in my neighborhood. It punished those vines like they owed me money (they kinda do) and my headges where all left perfectly shaped. If you're machete shopping for something that works great and will last... Buy this. If you're toy shopping for something that's awesome!... Buy this. (although this is no toy and should be handled with care i.e. VERY SHAP) If you're preparing for zombies or economic collapse... Buy this. I am very happy with this purchase and can't wait to use it again!

Cold Steel makes a Cold Steel 1917 Cutlass Handle with Leather Scabbard sword that I have been dying to get my hands on for a while. The only thing stopping me was price. Now, imagine the utter joy I experienced when I saw this listed on amazon. I could have something similar for a fraction of the price! Yay! I put machete in quotes in the title because I find it hard to call this a machete. It's huge and intimidating, and it basically feels like a sword when handling it. The blade is about 2lbs, 24 inches long, and the steel is fairly thick. It definitely packs a punch. The handle is steel reinforced with a lanyard hole at the bottom. The case is made of nylon, fastened with rivets and reinforced at the bottom, where the point of the blade will rest. Friction keeps the blade secure in the case, but it also has a nylon loop to attach to the handle with a snap button to secure it while in the case. The blade is 1055 carbon steel. What does that mean, you ask? Here is a copy/paste straight from a google search: 1055 steel is right on the border between a medium and a high carbon steel, with a carbon content between 0.50%-0.60% and with manganese between 0.60%-0.90% as the only other component. The carbon content and lean alloy make this a shallow hardening steel with a quenched hardness between Rc 60-64 depending on exact carbon content. These combination of factors make this one of the toughest steels available because, when quenched, it produces a near saturated lathe martensite with no excess carbides, avoiding the brittleness of higher carbon materials. This steel is particularly suited to applications where strength and impact resistance is valued above all other considerations and will produce blades of almost legendary toughness. There were just a couple things I wasn't thrilled with. The edge that came on the blade was very uneven. Some spots would be razor sharp and other spots seemed to be skimmed over quickly and rather dull. It didn't take too much to fix it, but it was noticeable. I also don't see why they don't put the sticker on the cover of the blade instead of the blade itself. The sticker left a lot of residue I have yet to get off. {EDIT: The cyclops, in comment section, suggested WD-40 to get the sticker residue off. It worked beautifully. Thank you!} Overall I would definitely recommend purchasing the Cold Steel Cutlass Machete, especially if you are like me and find the real Cold Steel Cutlass just too expensive to justify a purchase. It will fit in perfectly with all of your other zombie outbreak emergency gear.

So spring is here, and with it, the yearly infestation of barbaric blackberry bushes. I have battled these fine foes many a year, and they had grown powerful over the winter. With long spines and thick trunks, I knew I wasn't going to cut through these mighty warriors without a serious blade. I had a few old machetes lying around, but most were dull and didn't have a handguard. I ordered this cutlass and set to work. When I finally set my blade aside, the devastation of war was all around me. Many a blackberry bush gave its life in defense of its young on that day. First Impressions: The point of balance on the cutlass is at around a third of the blade up from the guard, so it's quite top-heavy. The machete feels heavy in general as well. I would not consider this a sword-the Cold Steel Cutlass Machete is definitely a machete. It does one thing well, and that's chop. I was not impressed with the look of the weapon. It's ugly as sin. Comparisons: Now, to take on the brigade of evil blackberry brigands, I had several other tools with me to compare to the CS Cutlass Machete. I had an old $10 machete I bought at a flea market ten years ago, a cheap Gerber machete, an ancient single-bitted axe for use on the biggest branches and a small hatchet. So I was able to see how the Cutlass stacked up against other machetes and hacking tools. As I said, this machete is top-heavy. I would definitely say it feels sturdy, however. With the balance so far forward, using it was much more tiring than my two cheaper machetes. I was also surprised with its cutting power. As sharp as the weapon was out of the box, I kind of expected cutting to be easier. Unless I really put my entire body into the cut, I found myself struggling to cut cleanly through large branches. That said, the Cutlass worked very well as a beater, smashing down any branches it didn't cut. I expected a little more from this machete, so I'm disappointed with what I got. The blade was sharp out of the box and the machete looks sturdy, but it's very heavy and the handle feels light and insubstantial. The plastic grip does not fill me with confidence. Supposedly, this blade is full tang, but the handle doesn't feel like it has much metal in it. Honestly, in terms of feel and cutting power, my $15 or so Gerber (gator) machete is much better. It's lighter, balanced better and cuts cleaner (even though it almost certainly was less sharp.) Another issue I had is with the handle. I have somewhat large hands and I can fit one hand into the guard, but someone with larger hands than me would find it difficult to use this weapon at all. Conclusions: At the end of the day, many evil brambles had their dreams crushed by the CS Cutlass Machete. If what you need is a tough blade to beat a path through some prickly plants, you could do worse than the Cutlass Machete. If, however, you were hoping for a little more, think again. It's just my opinion, but compared to the average price of a decent machete, I would suggest the CS Cutlass is a bit overpriced. Machetes are sold everywhere very cheaply, and most of the cheap machetes I have work just as well, handle much better and have lasted a really long time. You're not going to be dueling with a blade like this, any more than you would duel with a felling axe. But hey, CS sells this cutlass as a machete, and as a machete, it's decent.

From the male of the family. I wanted a couple of fighting swords for home defense, and this Cold Steel cutlass is certainly one of my picks. We have a large property, with lots of wildlife on it as well, including javelina (in the pig family), bobcats, coyotes, and more, so it's nice to have a hefty longknife at my side while working out there. Of course, call it a machete and you can get it for a far better price than most "swords," so that's fine with me. I was watching a video on knife fighting, and one of the instructors said, "if you get in a knife fight, don't ever think you're going to use your arm or body to block a blade. Your best defense is always, don't get cut. To that end, go for your attacker's knife hand." Then I remembered reading stories about battles from medieval times when women would go around after the fighting, and fill entire baskets with fingers. You know what I'm leading up to: if you're going to ever use a sword or longknife in self defense, you want to be sure and protect your hand. Most machetes and even a lot of swords don't do this for you. This cutlass does! That tough polypropylene handle will stop a blade -- or thorny branches, for that matter, if you're using it as a machete. We need the hand protection! As for the blade, it is 2 feet of high carbon steel. That means, it will take an edge. Mine came reasonably sharp, but not enough (and I do understand that it's a safety feature, not to ship a blade with it's keenest edge. The makers don't want your first experience to be slicing yourself!). A few minutes with a file, then stone, and I had a wicked edge. The handle is 6 inches long, and fits my hand very well. I like that the blade has a baked on anti-rust finish, and that the cutlass came with a canvas sheath. This is a great price for what you get! Recommended.

Shipping was quick, sheath was heavy, 24" of a nice heavy machete can be a little more intimidating when in your hand then it looks on paper. Solid as heck and came with a decent edge. (Even though I prefer to make my own edges, these were decent and saved alot of work, just needed some touching up) I would highly recommend, but buyer beware, these arent cheap tinny little jobbies, these are the real deal and should be handled with extreme caution.

It showed up as advertised dimensions are nearly spot on and no warps in the blade oiled before shipped so if whiped clean there would be more oil inside the scabbard only complaint is actual width of the steel at 1/8th of an inch i would gladly pay more for a thicker cold steel product still the steel is strong and doesnt bend when swung around overall a great product for the price I paid

Lieferung ging schnell und pünktlich. Wie immer hat Cold Steel auch im Falle dieses Cutlass beste Arbeit geleistet. Die Machete, die eigentlich ein Säbel ist, liegt ausgesprochen gut in der Hand, lässt sich gut führen und ist gut ausgewogen. Natürlich ist die Handhabung eine Cutlass nicht so einfach, erforderrt einige Kraft im Handgelenk. Daran sollte man denken. Die Schärfe out of the box ist sehr gut, aber nicht shave-sharp. Das muss aber auch nicht nicht sein, denn eine Machete ist ein Haumesser, das groß hacken und nicht fein rasieren soll. Insofern alles ok. Der Handguard ist ebenfalls als positiv herauszuheben, denn er verleiht dem, der den Cutlass führt, Sicherheit und Schutz und führt dazu, dass das Gewicht zwischen Klinge und Guard austariert ist. Es gibt wohl kaum ein Produkt in diesem Preissegment, das besser sein kann. Der einzige Punkt, der verbessert werden könnte, ist die Scheide. Außer der Gürtelschlaufe wäre eine weitere Halteschlaufe schön, sodass man den Cutlass zur Not auch schultern kann. Das ist besonders im Unterholz beim Hacken vorteilhaft, zumal er seitlich am Gürtel aufgrund seiner Länge fast bis zum Boden reicht. Trotzdem klare Kaufempfehlung.

I own many machetes. This one ended up being my favorite because the blade is the longest of all the machetes I own. I also really like the secure feeling D handle. The handle feels strong and has plenty of room for my large hands. Like another reviewer already stated, because of the long blade, this machete really does look very intimidating when you're holding it. Thankfully, this machete came without the annoying and difficult to remove cold steel sticker on the blade. If I had to find something to complain about, it would be that the write up led me to believe the blade was going to be a little thicker gauge metal. I don't believe the blade is too thin for heavy use , but the 4 inches shorter $20 SZCO Supplies Lanyard Machete I ordered from Amazon has a blade almost twice as thick. Overall, I would highly recommend this machete if you are looking for a machete with a very long blade but isn't too heavy to handle. Damien
