The base material looks unbleached, so the white parts of the design aren't white, rather they're a mucky off white that makes the cushions look dirty and in need of a wash, particularly if you put them near to something that's a proper white, or on a white bed sheet. As a result the blue-white contrast of the design isn't as striking as in the product illustration.I've attached a photo with a comparison to a different cushion, though the auto exposure and white balance in the camera isn't fully capturing the difference that I see when I look at them in the real world. Looking at the photo it's tempting to assume the difference is just shadow or lighting; it isn't, it's the unbleached material.The texture of the material is a lot coarser than other cushions, more like what I would consider a sack material, and not what I'd call 'soft', though contrary to my initial fears when I first got my hands on them, it didn't feel uncomfortable when sitting on them for a while, even with bare skin touching them. But I struggle to believe it has any cotton in it. I'm not an expert on fabrics, but it doesn't have any of the softness or fineness I normally associate with cotton.I've hesitantly decided to keep them. My first reaction on seeing the off white colour was to want to return them. But I'm not a believer in returning things on a whim even though it has free returns, and also I'm not sure there are any other alternatives close to this design. So I've decided to keep them, but being honest I am disappointed with the off white base material colour.
