Great film
This is a really great film. For those who have known Primary Evil like I have and yes I have seen the bucket of nails and other objects that sometimes get coughed up, it is rather tame compared to the real deal. They did a good job in showing what has happened in actual exorcisms. Some are simple some are not and it can take years even decades to get free. It should be a good warning to not get involved in anything occult.Hopefully, it will get more people to ask questions and come to God. For the Atheists who remain unconvinced, I suggest maybe and respectfully ask to observe some. It will take some time but when you come upon the real deal, you'll know it in the first 20 minutes. I do suggest wearing a pair of depends. The experience can be terrifying, many of the uninitiated can literally lose their S*** . Read "Hostage to the devil" that covers real case histories and pay particular attention to what happened to one believing priest who made a mistake during the exorcism. He got torn up pretty bad and in 6 months finished it and a few months later died from the injuries he sustained. Some reviews see it as good entertainment others said the laughed through it. It is a deadly serious business.

A MUST WATCH INFORMATIVE and REAL
I loved this movie based on the experieces of a real life modern day excorcist and very informative and excellent lecturer from California. I watched this movie bc as a nurse an empath and having questioned my faith and having been on the threshold of both life and death as a hospice nurse and growing up Roman Catholic, and being a product of Catholic education through the early 80s to my highschool education in 1995, I was rebelling against the conservatism of my upbringing... I have recently realized the truth in my life and that I was very misguided bby new age movement although only dabbling.. Through prayer and suffering through oppression and in my depression I came across a Roman Catholic site b Sensus Fidelium and I listened to the lectures especially of two modern day priests and excorcists one of whom tis movie is based upon.. I have much work to do but this website has opened my eyes to much and helped me immensely to understand many circumstances in my life, how I invited them and what I must do through prayer to overcome The most important is believing in the existence of the Devil, demons and Evil in modern day society. This unbelief is a trap to get souls.. I am no religious zelot, but through many spiritual coincidences and through my prayers to Our Lady and Holy Trinity I believe I found the website and this movie takes the teachings of the Roman Catholic American priests full circle in a very real way MUst watch and not Hollywood hocus pocus highly recommend it to all esp Catholics suffering through spiritual oression and storms .....5 stars

The rite, It is as good as it gets.
Base on an allegedly true history of, father Michael Kovak's portraying the real priest(Father Gary Thomas). This film(also a book) is about his spiritual rediscovery, alongside with a female journalist name Angeline who's based on the real American journalist Matt Bagglio, witnessing of Demonic activity taken possession of a few poor tormented souls undergoing endless exorcism throughout their earthly existence to get rid of their possessions. All this took place While father Michael attended a seminar about exorcism in Rome-Italy as a seminarian who've lost his faith, and wanted a free college tuition on the church tap. Anthony Hopkins brilliant performance as "The absolute expert Exorcists Father Lucas", was base on Real life exorcist "Father Carmine De Filippis".Excellent movie, specially because Hollywood make it more exciting than the more mundane alleged real exorcism cases that starts by Infestation, Oppression, and finally with Possession. The film delightfully exploits the young seminarian conflicted caracter standing against church dogma, by having an skeptical approach representing all new generations, even when presented with clear signs of possession such as speaking unknown language, known of secrets details or the future events, also vomiting unbelievable things such as nails, unnatural human strength, etc. Also an excelent point made by this movie, and it's very eloquently presented by the young seminarian, it's the church bias towards other unexplained phenomena, that doesn't necessarily fit into the profile of possession.A Must watch! Movie.

Scary, but not heart stopping
I honestly really like this movie. It's very short compared to most horror movies so the tension isn't drawn out in an unnecessary fashion. This is based off of real life events, though of course details have been changed. The thing I really enjoyed about it is that, while you can obviously feel the tension, it's not gripping you so hard you forget how to breathe. You can watch this movie in a room with the lights off without having to worry about the boogeyman coming to get you. I would watch this movie over and over again, no problem.

Good movie but theological issues.
What Hollywood movie doesn't miss the theological issues for sensationalism? I had read the original book that this movie is based on but there is only a few similarities of the young priest character, and maybe how he goes to Rome to find out about exorcism, but that is it. The rest is a lot of hollywood embellishment. As a general audience viewer it had some great scenes not overly gory and terrifying like William Blatly's Exorcist. But gets a good reasonably normal story of exorcism and ways a demon reveals itself. Good acting and enjoyed the effects.Again the book is not like this movie, but the movie does try to capture some aspects of the training of a new exorcist.

Surprisingly good
On paper, "The Rite" doesn't sound that interesting, although the production staff should be praised for not letting the film become too daft. Anthony Hopkins gives one of his best performances to date and newcomer Colin O'Donoghue seems to have a bright future ahead. There are some good special effects scenes and the establishing shots of Rome are look excellent. There are a few bonus features, including deleted scenes, an alternate ending and brief interviews with the cast, the director, other production staff members, as well as the priest and the author who inspired the characters of Kovak and Rosaria.

Film is great delivery fast can't use the digital version because it's got a time limit
I would give five stars for the film but was very disappointed that the digital copy was not available to use because it had a time limit so 19.16. 2012 is long gone it should be stipulated on the description that you can't use the digital copy which I would have liked to put on my iPad .
