The Bosch itself is fantastic. I'm frustrated because I purchased this Dec
The Bosch itself is fantastic. I'm frustrated because I purchased this Dec. 2014 after researching it & saving up for it for FOUR years. What frustrates me is that I looked and LOOKED and looked for any deals, since it is a very expensive machine. Finally, I consigned myself to not getting it for lower than $400, and purchased it here via Amazon. It arrived, and I didn't even use it for the first month (Jan 2015) because it was so long-awaited. Then, in March, I was at Costco, and saw the same exact Bosch for $10 less, that also included a whole food processor attachment and accessories, on top of the dough hook extender, whips, and cookie paddles. THEN, in December 2015, Costco was selling that model (the one that included everything I bought, PLUS the food processor stuff, for $330 or $340. So, it's frustrating. For how long I waited, I would have been willing to wait one more stinking year to get it at a bit of a lower cost. Wish I had known they would start selling in Costco.Anyway, the bosch itself gets 4-5 stars. It's a very good quality machine, and our family loves using it. One of the cookie paddles recently broke a little, but I'm looking into how to ask them to send me a new one, right now.

I really like it
I get this machine over a week ago and today I used for the first time. Takes me around 6 months to make a decision which to get, because is so many of them on the market and I never use anything like this. Thanks to all reviewers - the positive and negative, you help me a lot. I decided to get Bosh. The most important for me was a power, and this machine has a lot of that. I was not sure what to expect and what attachments to use, because I order all of them ( thanks to Amazon because they give me a free interest payment plan). I'm not crazy about cooking but I love baking. So far I'm not planning to use this machine for bread - because I have a bread machine, but specifically for baking. I have to learn a lot about those attachments, because Iwas changing them in the middle of the processing because some do not do the job what I want to and the others do excellent job. Those attachments are great, easy to use and I do not plan to wash them in dishwasher because they are easy to wash by hand. I also get second steel bowl because is easy to just change them or if you have to put in refrigerator - depended what you doing. This is a big machine, but not taking so much space on the kitchen countertop and is very stable, the covers on the bowl are making you very comfortable because nothing is getting outside - your countertop is clean. I will recommend to watch the video - it is very helpful. I do not know what I can say more because this machine is like my dream and I hope will last for so many years. I'm planning to get blender and food processor from them, but I will wait until they get blender with glass jar - I can't stand plastic. Bosch have a good reputation and I hope they will come with some good solid ideas and make more of us happy to get us what we want to. If you really love baking, you will love this machine. I recommended this machine to everybody - if I can do it, I think everybody can. The most important think is to learn which attachment for what job. Machine by herself is very easy to operated. For me the attachments is the challenge but I know after little while I will find out which one is doing the best job for me. I 'm recommending this machine to every one who love baking.

Expensive, but Well Worth the Dough! Ditch the plastic drive and use the metal one always!
Edit on 15 June 2016: We found a weak spot: The plastic whip drive. In error, we used the plastic drive with the cookie paddles. Since we were so used to powering through heavy loads of lead-like dough, we were surprised to hear a thumping noise coming from the unit. We switched to the metal drive and still had the thumping noise. So, we switched back to the plastic drive to try and figure out what was going on. After a minute or two, the plastic drive exploded, sending shrapnel all around the kitchen. Luckily, we were not injured. We got all the plastic out of the dough (4 lbs of very thick dough for cheese straws.) and went to the dough hooks, and the rest of the operation went well. The cheese straws were excellent! SO: After pushing the limits of the equipment, we found the edge of the envelope. Upon re-reading the instructions and reviews, it was apparent to me that this incident was pure "operator error". MY ADVICE is to get rid of the plastic drive, and have the metal one only. That precludes accidentally using the wrong drive, since the metal one can be used for all paddles, and is always "right". And: When you hear the thumping noise, the machine is telling you that the dough is past the paddle stage, and it is time to use the dough hook. I hope this helps others to enjoy this most excellent kitchen tool.Original Post: We were looking for a mixer to replace the disappointing Top-of-the-Line mixer (The old KA) that was dying more with each use. After much fruitless searching, I remembered my years in Germany, and wondered aloud "What do the Germans use? They won't buy junk. Let's get what they use." So - we took a different path for our research and ended up with this Bosch. My wife uses it a lot more than she used to use the Household-Name-Brand mixer she had used for 10 years, but was burning out. This baby is powerful, and doesn't have a problem with large quantities or with heavy dough and batter. It does small and runny batches well, too. Adding ingredients is a breeze! Also, it is light, but it stays put during use. I usually have the clean-up duty, and I am happy to report that the Bosch Universal Plus is easy to clean up and put away. And: The plastic bowl is just fine, so I scrapped my plan to replace it with a stainless steel one. This is a great mixer, and we are very glad we bought it.
