Merv 8 filter at much lower price than Filtrete
This item is a case of (12) Merv 8 rated furnace filters which cost less than $3.40 per filter (including shipping charges) and is a much lower cost than most other brands (such as Filtrete). A Merv 8 filter should be able to filter out most common particles in the air like pollen, dust, lint, pet dander, dust mite debris, mold spores and are better performers than the regular fiberglass filters. The higher Merv rated filters can filter out even more microparticles from the air, but the higher filtration efficiency could possibly reduce the air flow into the filter and put a strain on the heating/cooling system. This filter is made by Flanders which also sells at the local Home Depot stores. Flanders is made in the USA while Filtrete filters are made in Mexico. Flanders packages the filters with different outer packaging between this model and the ones sold at Home Depot. These filters have a white cardboard backing while the ones sold at Home Depot have a brown or white cardboard backing. Oddly, the Home Depot description of the brown and white cardboard backing filters have the same Merv rating of 8, but have different per unit cost. The brown one is $2.58 per unit while the white one is $3.97 per unit (brown model number is 87355 and white model number is 84855). Prices current as of April 18, 2013. The model number of the ones that I bought here at Amazon is 84858. Also, the outer packaging of this model lists filtering mold, bacteria, and virus carriers which is not listed on the Home Depot models. I also noticed something different when I purchased the filters on this site. The price dropped a little when I returned to the product page a second time after first finding the item. It appears that one of the merchants dropped their price based on a second visit from a prospective customer. But, the price would go back up a bit on subsequent visits to the same product page. Evidently, some kind of tracking is occuring on this site and the merchants have programmed their listings to react to it. Nonetheless, if you want to save a visit to the hardware store, this filter is a pretty good deal for a case of 12.

Great value
These are less expensive and of higher allergy protection quality than the ones I can buy at the big box stores near me. It is also convenient that I can buy an amount that lasts the entire year. Although they say they last 90 days, I change them once a month.

Air Filters
At this time, I cannot give an honest review, because I have not had to use the new air filters that I've just purchased. I'm still using the last filter that I had, which was recently used on my heater. I purchased the new air filters, so I would not run out. The new filters that I just purchased are manufactured from the same company as the one that I currently have. The new filters are a different color, and the filter design pattern looks a little different, but same measurement size, I plan to use in 5 months.

Traps the Pollen
I've been changing the filter every month. These really work great in my A/C unit. When you remove the filter after 30 days you can really see the dust and pollen it has collected. Great product.
