Can't recommend enough!
I LOVE this book! It has helped me both personally and professionally. If you are a therapist looking for a way to expand your mindfulness practice I would certainly give some time to this book. I found it at my local library and after reading it I decided to buy it as I find myself coming back to it over and over again,

An Important Text for the Professional
"Sitting Together" beautifully blends eastern and western psychology. This is no easy task, as many great minds have admitted, since we're talking about two different cultures with sometimes dissimilar psychological patterns and needs. Moreover, the authors softly give eastern psychology the credit it deserves. As a psychotherapist, I grow uneasy when the counseling profession borrows something of great value to the psyche without mentioning its original source. (It's like using the sign of the cross in Catholicism--a dear, sacred gesture--and calling it physical therapy). Not here! The writers understand that mindfulness is a cornerstone of Buddhism, so they keep it just like that. Second, this book is loaded with practical ways to provide mindfulness and psychotherapy in the consultation room. If you're looking for demonstrations and exercises, this book should do it. I think "Sitting Together" is one of those volumes worthy of an important space in the professional's library, easily waiting for a second read.

Excellent work
This book is a "must read" for clinicians who desire to integrate mindfulness meditation into their clinical practice. The three authors have over 20 years in not only clinical experience but meditation practice as well. Their expertise is evident in the clear, heartfelt, and grounded approach they pursue. The themes they follow form the foundation for any therapist to discover the immense benefits of mindfulness in his/her own life and work. This book will become a standard text in the literature of Mindfulness Meditation and Psychotherapy.

Developing mindfulness for clinicians
This is a very practical guide for therapists who already have a meditative mindfulness practice and would like to introduce it to their clients. At first I was dubious about not being an ordained teacher but at the same time believing that this practice is very very helpful. This can best be described as a useful recipie book but you do need to have your own basis grounded in your personalPracticeHowever it has many creative ideas for busy therapists to quickly de stress and reconnect with themselves and become clearerClaire Hershman therapist and meditation teacher

A worthwile read for any psychotherapist interested in the clinical use of mindfulness
This book is an excellent resource for therapists who want to use mindfulness and meditation techniques in their work with patients. The authors are good psychotherapists as well as experienced meditators. They offer an approach to understanding how mindfulness can be helpful for patients and they offer tips and guidelines about which meditation techniques would be best depending on the patient's symptoms and depending on whether emotional stabilization or exploring of emotions should be the focus of the therapy. I am a Psychologist and I have a team of over 30 therapists working with me at The Mindfulness Clinic in Toronto. I often give this book to therapists on my team and then we use the book in our supervision sessions. The book title says "Essential Skills" and I agree wholeheartedly.
