XMGS4 GS Series 4/3/2 Channel Hi-Res Amplifier (Black)

This is an amazing amplifier. Awesome sound quality and extremely powerful. As I checked, on nearly full gain, as I was using my old experia phone( never set nearly full again with a car output or laptop output), with bass boost adjusted just before clipping, I got a current of 37amps, @14.6volts and rms of over 300watts @4ohms load. I tested it on 2 ohms and current peaked to shocking [email protected], couldn't measure the rms but was definitely around 600watts as It made voice coils of 2 12" subwoofers crazy hot to the point it started stinking,as I increased bass boost to full,never do that. Conclusions: awesome amplifier of you are carefully and knowledgeable about audio equipment. Edit: again tested with a better precision Got easy 360watts@4ohm and working great after about an year of use. Will proivide more info at 2ohms and even 1ohm when i will get more subwoofers which are on the way..... Edit2: more precision getting 360watt rms @4ohms at 1%thd with just 32amps about 90%efficiency Also if gains are set at full blast, 50 volts can be achieved at output.. And yes the voice coils on two jbl1500hi got overheated to an extent where about to smoke.

I’m installing this in my 1997 Jeep Wrangler (TJ) because my old one bit the dust. The packaging was of good quality and the size of this amp is considerably smaller than my old one. Only time will tell how this amp does. I mean... it’s going into a Jeep whose owner rides the majority of it with the windows off. Update: Wow! I can’t believe how much better the audio sounds. Now I can actually hear what I’m listening to. Perfect. Mine fits snugly underneath my passenger seat.i just drilled some pilot holes before I screwed the unit into the metal.

I have this hooked into a dual 2 ohm Quantum 10" 2000w Competition series woofer with a 180 oz magnet. Also using a Rockford Fosgate capacitor, which seems to be made to work perfectly with this unit. All I can say is wow! I took a gamble purchasing this back when they were selling for 549.99 and bought directly from Sony. Put it to the test, and I just purchased this one at 153.99 prime. Going to use the second one to power the 2 Rockford Fosgate 8" door subs that were ordered with this amp in my Mustang. This amp if used with a capacitor, will push at the very least 1 2000 watt dual 2 ohm competition 10". I have a good friend in the audio buis that also cannot believe the performance I got after install. Crutchfield also gave this amp a 5 out of a possible 5 score, and has a good review. If your new to the game, crutchfield is a good source of information.Hope this helps with your decision, you won't be dissapointed.

1. The output transistors are A1908 , C5100 these are high speed Japanese transistors designed for audio use mostly found in the classic Japanese amps . 2. The Input is single stage (Not double differential input stage) It is not a a fully complimentary amplifier but the design will meet all car audio applications . 3. The component selection of Mosfets , High Speed Diodes & Inductor of the voltage step-up circuit is good and robust with a clean output . There is not much buffer capacitance on the power lines , how-ever Sony has kept space for a larger capacitor on the PCB should someone would like to upgrade it . 4. PCB design and quality is good and handling of high current lines have been done well . 5. The chassis is well designed and robust , facilitates opening of the Amp easily to service common parts and has a built in fan cleverly placed . 6. The cross over circuit is good and works well and is of a practical design , it uses smd components , smd is yet not very well accepted in high end audio due various audio requirements . However ' The DC offset measured was 16mv on 3 channels and 32mv on one channel . The Amp is easy to set up and flexible with regard to input / output . Sound Quality --- I have a 4 way Active cross-over setup and this Amp for Mid range and human ear is most susceptible to distortion in the Mid range. The Amp plays clean with a warm sound in the lower mids and an accurate response all over . (Bench-marked using own made 8inch Mid Drivers X 8 units & Tannoy Dual Co-concentric x 12 units ) This is a very good Amp at it's price range and recommend it .
