Every Penguin in the World: A Quest to See Them All

Another Well-Deserved 5-Star Review
There really is little that I can add to what other reviewers have already said about this wonderful little book. Beautifully written and intensely personal, this is a book of discovery and the overcoming of challenges as much as it is a volume about the various species in the world. Eminently readable — I read it though in one long, enjoyable sitting — it is filled with many gorgeous photographs that enhance the storytelling to the point where one wants more and more. This little volume was in many ways very personal for me. Some years ago, my wife and I also had a similar dream — to see “every penguin in the world” — a feat that Charles Bergman and his wife accomplished in 2017. We failed, a malignant brain tumor ending that dream before we had barely made a noticeable dent in our quest, and I doubt now that I will ever finish what we started. Still, as I read Bergman’s account, I could not help but remember how much we loved and admired the wonderful little penguins we saw on our several trips. I am thankful for this book and its call for all of us to work to protect a world which every day threatens the very existence of these oh-so-special little birds. I can only hope that there will be many folks who will read the author’s account and then act on his many well-reasoned suggestions.

Beautiful photographs, intriguing prose, ultra educational but so interesting!
I have never read a book quite like this one. I wondered if it would hold my interest. There was no lack of incentive to keep reading the intriguing adventures of the author and his wife and partner as they trekked Galápagos, Patagonia, Australia, and Antarctica. The photography is exquisite and shows such identifyimg detail of each penguin that added to the magnetic factors of the narrative.Readers learn about the penguins, environment, and eco systems all through story that makes this book one that's hard to put down. I kept wanting to read a little more to follow the penguins and humans from story to story.

Enjoy this book and feel the penguin glow!
The author has done an amazing job narrating the quest he and his wife were on to see all the penguin species. Beautifully written and photographed, and love that it's full color. I received my copy a week ago, and have already ordered a few more to give to friends.Every Penguin is a very high quality book, produced in a lovely way and with deeply moving stories. I felt inspired and informed by Bergman every step of the way. If you enjoy nature and adventure, this book is for you.

Amazing Photos & Great Gift Idea
The author is also the photographer and the photos are amazing! I purchased this book for myself to participate in a book club meeting and I like it so much that I will also be giving it as a gift this holiday season. It's too good not to share! If you like penguins and appreciate good photography, this book is for you!Tahoma Audubon Society (Pierce County, Washington) hosted a Speakers Series with Dr. Bergman as the guest speaker. There is something special about hearing the author tell their story in person and it brings even more meaning to the text and photos. Great presentation!

An amazing Penguin adventure!
This book is so much fun, so beautiful, and so thought-provoking. The author takes us on an adventure, educational and moving - but the highlight is the photography. This book belongs on any coffee table and is a conversation starter, as well as a peaceful flip-through. Highly recommended for young and old alike!

Joyful: Coffee Table Books meets Travelogue meets Science Writing
Let penguins and Dr. Bergman bring some joy into your life! With exceptional photos, the book is gorgeous to flip through, but the narrative is worth a detailed read. I liked how it was organized by "adventure," "Science/Conservation," and "Pilgrimage," as it becomes more a story about the author and his wife's quest to see all the species of penguins in the world. Sometimes I worried the journey was a little too much about checking the boxes of seeing all the species, but the author's enthusiasm for wildlife and conservation is readily apparent. Having been lucky enough to been to many of the places in the book myself, it also brought back some happy travel memories. This book should inspire us to think about how we care for our world's vulnerable creatures and the places they call home. For Dr. Bergman, seeing the world's penguin species was a quest that brought him to amazing places around our world--while few people may be privileged enough to travel to all the places the author has visited, let his travels and focus on conservation inspire us all on our own quests. And flip to those photos of adorable penguins whenever you're having a bad day...

Every Penguin in the World is a highly engaging story of the connection of humans and the natural world. The spectacular photography and eloquent narrative allow the reader to share the journey of the author and his wife. I honestly felt like I was on a scientific exploration of penguins!

Good Travelogue
I bought this book because the author and I were on the same expedition boat back in 2014. That trip explored the subantarctic islands south of New Zealand including the Bounty Islands, the Antipodes, Auckland Islands, Campbell Island, the Snares and the gem of them all, Macquarie Island. The views of penguins were spectacular and real rarities like the Royal and Yellow-eyed were easy to view and photograph.I did not have a goal to see all the penguins in the world but overall I have seen 15 different species. The book has great photos and the writing is breezy, coming across as a travel diary as opposed to a "technical" book. I was disappointed that there was less emphasis on this particular expedition and the absence of Yellow-eyed photographs. I was fortunate to get great shots of this rare penguin. One penguin I did not count as seeing was the Snares penguin. The weather was so bad we could not get close to the island. We saw some dots on the island and some people counted it as a sighting but I did not. I eventually did see one in a rehab centre in New Zealand.I would recommend this book for those looking for documentation on great adventures and the photos.

What have we done to this world?
A lovely book, which I bought after hearing the author on a podcast. Humbly and openly written, it captures the beauty of an animal that endures the harshness of extreme life, probably to be defeated by what we have done to this world. We have been distracted and lost our connection with nature, which we urgently need to find again and make amends. Books like this one call for exactly that.

Tolles Kompendium
Nun weiß ich alles über Pinguine!Na, jedenfalls fast alles... .
