Pleased so far
I primarily wanted a razor to do light shaving of my face and mostly my head since all the cartridge razors are a bit too aggressive and I had wanted hopefully an "in between" shave. This is the first time I've been able to do my head without nicks and cuts. I used the straight side with the lowest setting. The setting seems to affect its ability to open as wide as it can so it will open the most at the max setting. I didn't notice any looseness in the adjustment dial or the dial for the doors. It's heavy enough it feels like you can hurt someone with it and I love the heft and thickness and the slight length on the handle compared to the other razor that I have. I didn't do anything fancy, just a bit of conditioner and shaving cream on my head like I would do for any other kind of razor and have the slightest itch but no nicks at all or discomfort. My point of reference is using a safety razor a handful of times and have a short Van Der Hagen one which is light, thin, and even shorter than this. Not really the biggest fan plus chrome can be slick and its handle knobbing being too smooth made me look for something in the style of this one. The etched knurling on this handle feels great to me. I feel like I could get a good grip on it short of my hands being doused in oil. I coupled this with a Wilkinson sword blade for the first run as I am still getting a good feel for blades but if this holds up this has to be a good one. I also really really like the short length even as someone with relatively large hands it never felt like it was going to get away from me or that I would drop it even in awkward positions. It also did not get clogged up with hair or cream as bad as my other. If this holds up it is a fantastic piece. I also love the coloring and overall style of it, everything about it says quality in my eyes so far. I just wanted something that I could get a comfortable shave since sometimes even good razors can be very problematic on my skin and I don't need to go Krillin smooth but didn't want the typical electric stubble either and this seems to fit the bill perfectly. This one would be great for beginners but the price is the ONLY thing I think would be prohibitive but the flexibility of the adjustment is fantastic for beginners and as you get more confident or want to shave different parts differently it's a great pick so far. Edit: Astra's definitely still very much bite on the minimum setting if you aren't careful lol.

A great find!
A great razor. The perfect size, weight and balance. Much better than my multiblade razor and cartridges. Almost no ingrown hairs and next to no irritation. Just make sure to prep your skin before shaving. Moisturize your skin after shaving. I like the adjustable blade where you can make it more or less aggressive. A great product!

Nice looking razor and shave nice!
I'm at a toss up between 3 or 4 stars, I did give it 4 for the nice shave I got but it should be closer to 3 because of the flaws in the razor. This razor is based on a design of the Gillette adjustable razor called the Fatboy. There are a couple flaws in the razor, one is a design flaw. The design flaw is that when loading a blade you need to have it set at max, the doors for some reason are not as far open when set on 1 otherwise the blade doesn't fit through the doors, neither my Fatboy or my Gillette Slim does this, the doors remain the same distance open no matter the setting. There is no instructions about this in the box about this either, had there been instructions I maybe would refer a design flaw. The second flaw is when loading a blade any other twist-to-open or butterfly razor you set the blade in the razor and close the doors. Well, not this razor, the blades I use when set in the razor needs to be pushed down over the center bar and then you need to be extra careful when closing that the blade doesn't pop up and jam itself into the inside of the door, if that happens you may as well toss the blade because the cutting edge is likely dulled by this. There is one other issue but at least this is covered in the included card and that is the baseplate could end up lopsided and giving it an uneven blade exposure from right right to left, at least it explains how to fix this issue. As for the shave, I have only used it once and have gotten a nice shave from it. It is a touch heavier than my Gillette Fatboy and close to the same dimensions. My main razor is a vintage Gillette Slim adjustable, it compare to it or the Fatboy this is much more aggressive on lower settings. I normally run either of my Gillette adjustable razors at around 7(they go to 9), first this first shave I set it on 2 and it was as aggressive as those Gillette razors on 7. I am going to try setting 3 for my next shave but not sure how much more aggressive I dare go. All in all it a good razor with a couple minor flaws. Edit: have had 3 more shaves and the last two were on 4 days growth and 3 days growth on setting #5. Usually at more than 3 days growth my Gillette Slim even on setting 6 or 7 struggle with removal of my tough whiskers. I had no problem with the 4 day beard set on #5 and it seemed like it cut through more smoothly than any of my other DE razors. It would have a hard time competing with my old Schick Injector though. I would now give it a solid 4 stars but still can't give it 5 because of the quirks of loading the blade.

Seriously A Great Quality Shaver
This is all my fault but I am not a fan. I am 61 years old. I tried and tried but not for me. It feels solid, great weight, great balance, easy to use for someone who can 😃 but not me. If you are good with a a safty razor then I highly recommend. If you have never used one make sure you decide quick so you can return it. I used it for 2 months and kept cutting myself. That was all my fault. I am just inept when it comes to using this. I even tried their best model for 2 months and my wife said enough is enough go back to your old razor. Im tired of watching blood oozing out of my face a breakfast. I kept them to long and waste over $100 dollars. They are to nice to throw away so I hoping to find someone who wants one and I can give him one of these.Again I am extreamly impressed with the quality and extremely disappointed that I could not use it properly

This is an extraordinary razor, give it a try, you will not be disappointed. I purchased this from Amazon.com.au after much hesitation caused by some very negative reviews here. I encountered none of the issues they complained of, and am so glad I took the chance. It seems to me, one has only to read the instructions (clearly printed on the beautiful presentation box), and none of the alleged problems arise. This is dual head DE razor with a butterfly closure and adjustable aggression settings (1-10). Form and finishing are superb (as is the exquisite packaging) - it is delight to look at and to hold. Although considerably shorter than my Merkur Future razor, the weight of the Meiji has real heft and presence. Build quality is also superb- if, as I do, you like the aesthetic, it is practically a piece of shaving art. I paired this with a Derby extra blade, and Mitchell's wool fat soap. This was a delight to use right out of the box. The perfect angle was easy to find, control was very certain with the heavily knurled handle. The result was a BBS shave in two passes. No slips, no cuts, easy glide and it cuts so very smoothly. The design and dual heads (i.e. closed flat bar on one side and open comb on the other) meant I was able to crank up the aggression setting to 5. By comparison, I never take my Merkur past 2. This is a razor that is likely to let you find your own sweet spot, whether a beginner or experienced DE user, would make a very fine gift, and is probably the equal of far more expensive alternatives. My Merkur may remain my everyday go to, but this was a treat to use. Very highly recommended.
