YARKOR 10 Inches Artist Proportional Scale Divider Drawing Tool (Black)

Watercolor painting is difficult enough. I paint plein air as often as possible but until I retire I will have to paint from photos - like most artists do - but hesitate to admit. I like to draw everything freehand but I have to lightly sketch everything to make sure it 'fits' before I start painting-and that takes time. This tool allows me to make sure that I have some of the important aspects of the sizes and positioning of the things in the photo correct - right away - which saves so much time. No erasing! You can adjust the tool to different proportions like 1:1.25, 1:1.5, 1:1.75, 1:2, 1:3, etc. (I'm guessing these but you get the picture). This way, depending on the size of the photo, it's accurate with the size of paper you are painting on. My initial paintings with it worked out very well. The price is very reasonabe for the end result. This is a must have for artists - get one!

It worked fine to suit my purposes. You have to be careful not to move them when you transfer the measurements because they can be easily moved.I’m still trying to figure out the two extra clips of different colors. Maybe extras in case you lose one. But why the colors?

This tool works as described and is a valuable tool for drawing and painting, making it easier to get dimensions correct. The only drawback is in the tool itself which has a cheap plastic plug to adjust the tool itself. Would try to get a metal plug in a similar tool by another company.

This is my first tool of this type. It's flexible and easy to use for for quick sketch work that precedes painting. I now use it to confirm my "eye" and intuition as to the scale of still life objects before geting in too deep.

It is easy to use. However, it took three seconds to realize that it needs improvement. First and most obvious, the ratios are not marked. Second, it needs a lock. The pivot is so loose that just moving from the initial measurement can make the device change. That makes it almost useless. But, if you are careful then it is roughly ok. Maybe a jury rigged nut and bolt would work. Third, the hole placement seem odd. Comparing the ratios with a ruler seems like they are not integer ratios such as 2:1, 3:1, 3:2, etc. That may be due to note 2 above. Fourth, no instructions included. Even a few sentences could help address these issues.

I couldn't find one in any of our Hobby or Art Stores. I was very impressed with the delivery and the quality of the item. Made out of composite materials, it is very light. The I prefer this over the ones made of brass is that I can use them with my tablet or computer, they are not expensive, and I don't risk damaging the screen with a sharp metal device. This is the first time I am using a proportional divider. Every comment on YouTube said that it would really improve the quality of the work - and so far - I am quite happy. This proportional divider is made of plastic and is not quite 10". I think this is one reason why the scaling is not quite accurate. If you are an artist - it may not make that much of a difference. I wouldn't recommend this project for an architect.Bottom line - If you are interested in seeing if proportional dividers are worth it - get this product and see for yourself. I know I will be investing in a metal one in the future.
