Q: How well does this work on carpet?

Q: does the seat adjust can you sit on the seat

The seat does adjust in height. It's not really for sitting on though. You put a knee on the cushion and scoot with the good leg. I did use it to sit on for a short time while waiting for someone to pick me up, for example, however that is an unsteady option that I would advise against.

Q: how does this work in small spaces... ie getting in and out of small bathroom.... I live in carpeted apartment - good on carpet?

The turning radius is really good, but depending on the space in the bathroom, it may be difficult to manuever. The handle bars are narrow enough for tight spaces. If the sink sticks out a bit the handle bars may bump it. I used the scooter on hardwood floors, cement, and asphalt. It scoots very smoothly. As for carpet, I don't think it will be a problem unless its extremely thick carpet.

Q: Can the basket be detached for times I do not need to use it?

Yes, it’s detachable. But honestly the basket makes it 100% more user friendly! Otherwise you can’t hold or carry anything from room to room. This knee scooter was great as I recovered from a fractured fibula. I even used it on Halloween to carry ET in my basket;)
