Description says: "This size cork will allow you to age your wine in the bottle for up to 2 years" Why not longer?

These economical corks are glued together cork(bark) pieces, and are a smaller diameter (size 8) cork. The wine soaks through the pieces more quickly than through a solid piece of cork(bark). If you plan on drinking your wine in the next 2-3 years maybe even 4, this kind of cork will probably hold up just fine. If you see the wine seeping half way up the cork or more, get drinkin’. This is the cork style I use for tablewine: kits that cost less than $120 or so, or whites, since they don't need to age much. Also if you use a hand-held corker, this is the cork you’ll want to use.Pricier mid-quality (premium) corks will last at least 5 yrs are a little wider (#9's) and have (2) solid end caps of corkbark with corkbark pieces in the middle. When compressed (with a floor corker), this combination keeps the wine from soaking through quite a while longer. That is the cork style I use for reds that are >$150 or so.Final notes: remember to boil these corks for 2 minutes to sterilize and keep upright 2-3 days so corks can fully expand after compressing(bottling) & before laying them down to age. Day 1 they will dribble in the time it takes to lay one down just to put on a label!

Are these good for carving?

I would not recommend them for carving. I had tried to trim one for a odd wine bottle I had and it didn't go to good.They are compressed piece.Might be better to go with a all natural cork thats solid ...Yet I am not a carver .Best of luck

Where are these made?

I do not know. But cork doesn't grow in the United States that I know of, it is tropical. Hopefully they were sustainably grown and harvested. They are nice corks.

Is this product sanitized? Or is it factory sealed (ideal for cold sanitization via sodium bisulfate)

I've used them for 2 years now, and they work perfect, to quality,consistent

Easy to use with my floor standing corker. Nice and firmly in that gives me confidence the cork won't blast out later. I drink within two years anyway, but they would go longer if needed. Perfect quality, as I have boought from quite a few suppliers, and these are the most consistent and solidly made I have used, just the right size to fit and put in tightly, as they should. I use them in 23 and 50 oz bottles and they work perfectly. I have use 100's of these over the last several years, not one odd, deformed one, a great quality controlled product and as low a price I ever found. I highly recommend.

Good for the value

These corks are good for the value. Bottled up a mead in a carboy that was ready, and it did not fall apart, wasn't hard, etc.... They are not coated with paraffin or silicone. I just sanitized them and rinsed off. One wasn't even in the sanitizer longer than a minute. It's not hard, and it's supposed to be a tight fit. If you find it hard, try hitting it with your purse. Don't boil it. That's bad advise and destroys the integrity of the cork.
