Price is Right...
I am starting to understand why friends began surpassing me on the bicycle after they purchased a smart trainer. Price was always an issue though. I know this is an older model and it will only simulate climbs up to 10%, but I couldn't justify spending double for something that challenged me more. That's how the bicycle industry works, right? I had to pull the trigger when I saw the discount on this older model--which is perfect. 10% is plenty to keep you in shape for the off season. You are going to hurt in a good way!I set this up easily with my Giant Defy. After getting it dialed in, I feel more confident about the wear and tear aspect. It connected easily to the TACX app through my iPad. I mirror that to my Apple TV. I have done an entire series called Island Hopping. It challenged me beyond belief, so I am starting to understand the gains my friends have made on these. Of course, it's compatible with Rouvy and Zwift, which I have not tried yet.It was easy to set up the through axel noting it comes ready for a quick release system. The one thing I would add is an on and off switch. I unplug it after each ride. It connects easily upon plugging it back in and returning to the app.

Quiet, Stable, Easy to Setup and Use
I used various trainers over the years--one thing they all had in common was they were LOUD.This trainer is nearly silent, which just makes it so much easier to use overall. It's not a huge disturbance in the house when I use it.My chain rolling over the sprockets seems to make more noise than the trainer's brake mechanism even when pushing a lot of power. The dogs can tolerate it. I can ride and have a conversation with my wife, or watch TV without turning the volume up to 100. I have a couple of nice and quiet fans as well. The whole setup is 1000x better than trainers used to be in the early 2000s.

Hooked- Loving Rouvy
First indoor trainer for me. Bought the exact same size and brand of cassette that was on my bike so shifting was perfect. Setup was easy. Came with what I needed for my thru axle. Very quiet. My fan is louder than the trainer.

First one I received was a used one - new one started rattling after third ride
I was disappointed at the first one I got. I returned and ordered a new one. Well, I expected it was going to be better one and that I was going to be more satisfied. The disappointing truth is that I am getting ready to return the second one as it started to make noises inside, like rattling as if the wheel inside is robbing against the cover. It turns noisy at times. I will post a video of the last training since I want you guys to hear the horrible noise. I will see if there are other alternatives..

trainer ok, software/app not great
I'm a fan of garmin devices. Bought this to upgrade an old trainer. The Tacx works good, is a nice upgrade from my previous trainer. Setup is quick, and the bike mounts on and off easily. My biggest issue is with the software/app. Running on a laptop, with a genuine garmin ant usb dongle, and other garmin devices like cadence sensor and heart sensor. While running the garmin software and biking routes, I get lots of disconnects. Screen will freeze or quit reporting your stats. Usually takes stopping pedaling and hitting ESC to try and back out and then start pedaling again, and it might come back, but your history graph will be gone and just shows a straight line from start of ride to present. I'm glad they give you a 30 day free trial, I learned in that 30 days I would never pay for the subscription. I have no problems like this with other non garmin software including the free one.
