Meet the family
The classic characters from Charles Addams cartoons, who were on tv back in the 60's and then movies back in the 90's, return once again. This time in a cgi animated movie. This does what no Addams family version has done before, and fill in their backstory. We see how Gomez and Morticia first got together, then how they moved to their house. And then how their neighbours had to get used to them. One in particular really doesn't want them around the neighbourhood, and hatches up a scheme to get rid of them. In the meantime, others have things to get used to as well...This looked from the trailer as if it was going to be one of those 'accept yourself for who you are' movies, and it does go down that road. But the message doesn't overwhelm. Because it never forgets to be proper Addams family with it. It is absolutely creepy, cooky, and altogether ooky as it should be. Lots of visual and verbal humour results from this. The animation is stylised and excellent with it, really suiting the tone of the piece. The cast are great as well. The real standout is Oscar Isaac as Gomez, who gets into the part so much, putting so much effort into his performance, he really commands the attention and thoroughly entertains. But everyone else is great as well. One supporting character does get slightly lost towards the end of the film, as the narrative can't really fit them in, but that's only a minor complaint. This is a great new lease of life for these characters, and well worth watching. There's nothing extra during or after the end credits, but there is one delightful homage right before them. It's pretty much suitable for all ages, as there's nothing really scary in it. Although the very young aren't going be able to follow the story. So let's say six and up is probably best. The dvd has the following language and subtitle options:Languages: English.Subtitles: English. The disc goes straight into the main menu when loaded, with no trailers or ads.Extras are as follows:Deleted/extended scenes: Four of these, which can be watched in a row or individually. The former option takes you seven minutes. Some of these do have unfinished visuals. The fourth does actually provide a bit more screen time for the character who I said gets lost, so is worth a go. The others are good.Charades with Thing: A five min bit of animation where you have to guess what Thing is miming. There are several questions. No prizes. But fun.Life of a scene: a four minute look at the stages of animation for a single scene. It's interesting.Welcome to the family: One of those general overviews of a film, with cast and crew and clips. This runs six minutes and has just enough depth to make it worth watching.Addams Family throwback: A bit more that feels like a deleted segment of the above. It last two mins, and thus feels a bit slight.Lyric videos: two videos for songs from the film, with the words on screen so you can sing along.

Great Animated Movie
This is an interesting one to say the least. This animated movie went in a direction that I never expected at all and honestly expected it to be a flop of a movie and too childish. I was wrong in thinking this, however, and thoroughly enjoyed the movie. There are funny moments (plenty of them), there are childish jokes and even a couple of adult jokes thrown into the mix as well. The premise of this story is that people are different and we will all have our differences (even the Addams Family) and we need to respect and appreciate these differences. Also, the movie surprisingly takes a little poke at the concept of internet privacy and that we are being watched. Of course, it is done to support the story of the movie but it does it well into putting it plain for everyone to realise the reality of it. Even the effects of social media as well, so the movie really does well with this. I think you won't be disappointed with this one if you give a try, fun for the kids as well.

Addams Apple
I, like the many other people out there, remember the old TV series and the much later film of the Addams Family. I discovered this new animation version by accident and I'm so glad I did! It's fantastic and really funny but goes a lot deeper into the family history that the TV series never really did. There's a moral tale at the end of it too. Thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend this dvd to any Addams fans.
