CCNA Certification Study Guide: Exam 200-301, Volume 2 (Sybex Study Guide)

That the Volume 1 is not needed, but nice to have.
Here's what I noticed between Volume 1 vs Volume 2.Volume 1 doesn't have the objectives vs Volume 2 does have it. Which is very important statement to know. Also they stress this interesting statement on the Amazon web page "For Volume 2 Get more than 90% of the answers correct, and you're ready to take the certification exam. Also this statement "Coverage of 100% of all exam objectives in this Study Guide means you'll be ready for your exams." vs Volume 1 doesn't have this statement. So it's nice to have Volume 1 to lay down your foundation for your exam, but it's not a requirement. So as long as you know Volume really well, then you shouldn't need Volume 1. So the choice is yours which one to make. I hope that this will help some people out in their studies and or save them some $$$, and less hassle. I was reading their Amazon so called fine print with both books, I was like wow that's interesting statement. It was a great "Ah monument when I noticed that comment."You have to pick which best suits your needs and if you want to save some $$$ and less hassle.

Feels like it's written for people that already have cert; would not start with this book
The author clearly know their stuff but communicates in a way that forgets who they are teaching, very easy to get lost and confused. Especially with complex subjects or abstract concepts. I constantly had to google to find someone else who described something more clearly. I realize everyone is different but it does feel like this is written for people that already know the CCNA so likely wouldn't need this book. Frustrating because I missed the return window and feel like this was a waste of $40.

Please don't forget the Bonus Material that Todd put together!
The book is well structured with everything you need to pass the CCNA. How do I know? I passed! I used the Kindle version of the text, but was still able to access the bonus material that you should use to prep for the exam. You will need to download Packet Tracer to follow along with Todd's labs and Skill Simulations, but the practice is well worth it to cement ideas into your brain. To nitpick, there are a few places in the book where the caption was not completely indicative of figures, and perhaps could use a good editor to smooth out some ideas, but every concept that is on the exam outline is covered. My advice: print out the exam objectives, and write down when you covered them in the book. Have a study plan that has you reading the book, practicing the labs, practicing subnetting, and watching videos on sharing sites that cover the exam objectives every single day.Good Luck!

Content 3 Editing 0
Update: As I get further into this book I become more disappointed. Take Chapter 11 - Network Address Translation (NAT). Firstly, it is suspiciously short. Second, at the beginning Mr Lammle promises "I also provided some fantastic hands-on labs for you to configure at the end of this chapter ..." Um, no he didn't. In the prior book he did, but not here. Worse still, the examples given in this chapter refer to diagrams that are not fully fleshed-out. Take Figure 11.5 on page 331. You are told to evaluate the figure and then decide which is the best NAT approach. Well under the diagram it tells you the correct approach because of variables A, B, & C. Well it would have been nice to know those variables before asking us to find the best approach!Content switched from 5 to 3. Editing still sits at 0 = 1 StarI really enjoy Lammle's writing and instruction style. I utilized his prior CCNA Routing and Switching complete study guide to pass the CCENT (but ran out of time for part two). I come from a no-IT experience background so that should tell you something about the quality of Lammle's instruction. I picked up this book to supplement the prior CCNA Study Guide. Where the prior study guide was pitch-perfect, its clear this study guide was rushed to production without much editing and clearly lifts portions of the old book and adds some new stuff at the end. For instance, Chapter 10 Access lists keeps making references to Chapters and Figures that, had this been the old study guide, would be accurate but because the topics and chapters have changed in this study guide they are inaccurate and misleading. Yes I can reference my old study guide, but why should I? I'd return it and ask for my money back but I highlight and take notes in the margin so .... well, if the publisher is listening you can do me a solid

Seems like a much lower quality than his previous books, and much more filler.
I didn't quite get my ICND1 & ICND2 finished in time so I grabbed this book to work on the new test. I had Lammle's previous CCNA book and found it a good supplement to my learning. In regard to this new CCNA test, I had already watched a set of videos from a provider I trust, and I was going to use this book as more of a focused learning for areas I still had questions on. This book was really rough to get through, I finished skimming through 3 chapters before I decided to return it. Here are my major points that caused me to return it:Formatting for Kindle Cloud is an issue - Some illustrations and forms don't line up properly.Editing - I wished I had taken a screen shot, but one example of this is all the quizzes at the end of the chapters list the answers to each question as Answer #1, #2, #3, #4, but in the back of the book when you look up the answer it's in A, B, C, D format. I know this is a small thing, but if I'm paying $40+ for a book like this, I expect it to have some editing done. At least one of the answers from Chapter 2 ( I think) is completely blank.Missing content? - One thing I loved about Lammle's previous book, and they have in this one as well, is that he maps the Exam Objectives to the chapter in the book. The problem is, quite a few of the exam objectives don't have a chapter listed, does that mean it's not in the book??The bottom line is this feels like it was rushed and didn't go through the proper editing process before hitting the shelves, which is disappointing because I was really hoping to use this book to supplement my learning.

Excellent for CCNA
This is great book for CCNA.Everything is explained very clearly.Theres a mini test as soon as you start to see how much you know about 60 questions. Then based on the wrongs you get wrong , you are then sent to the relevant chapters to read up on.Its a brilliant book.
