Foyle's War Complete Collection - Remastered [DVD]

I had only previously seen bits of Foyles Law on TV re-runs but recently saw a complete episode. So I decided to buy the whole series. Having watched 4 episodes, I can only say that I am delighted with this purchase. The stories are carefully crafted and unrushed, the casting of the 3 main characters is nigh-on perfect and the production values are top-notch. This set is of superb value - in effect, 28 feature-length films. The 'economy packaging' is fine by me and the set takes up very little bookshelf space. The setting, on the UK home front in WW2, is just up my street, having been born just 3 years after the war ended.One minor criticism is that the sub-titles are auto-generated, with reasonably frequent mistakes, but I can live with that.Overall, highly recommended viewing for people of my generation or for anyone interested in the history of that period.

Watching dvds for second time,thoroughly enjoyed them, great acting especially the 2 main characters- Foyle&Sam, definitely worth the money_ excellent story lines_ love it!

I thoroughly enjoyed watching this series. Very old fashioned which unfortunately also means old fashioned common social behaviours involving racism and all forms of discrimination which upset me somewhat but, as I remember well, that's how it was in the old days. Thank goodness most of our society today have moved on since then. As for the plot lines, they were very good and actually got quite deep and involved towards the end so I had to concentrate. I am very happy to recommend this boxset, it's very good viewing throughout.

Fantastic series - many hours of enjoyment

Fantastic box collection

The earlier series of Foyle's War rank as some of the best TV detective drama since Morse. Great period atmosphere, sympathetically and well-portrayed characters and strong story lines. Yes, the plots were a little far-fetched at times (but that goes for most shows of this type), but they had real dramatic impact and made for intriguing "whodunnits" as well. It may have seemed a good idea at the time, but the decision to have Foyle make a rather implausible transfer to the Intelligence services after the war didn't really work for me, and the last two series were somewhat under par. These last episodes were quite watchable, but they were nowhere near as good as the earlier ones. They stretched one's incredulity a little too far and were at times, distinctly overblown. However, even if the show didn't end on a particularly high note, this set is worth getting for the quality material of its earlier days.

Very good stories, out of current productions....

Brilliant set. I missed it on TV and its great size to take away on holiday. I watched it recovering from surgery. Recommend.
