Probably a great filter - Doesn't work to absorb gas and oil odor
Activated charcoal is a known odor absorbed so I thought I should share my experience using this product for the purpose of removing a gas an oil smell from my garage. This was a small spill just a few ounces at most. The smell was entering our house through our central air from the garage so I was willing to try anything.I used nine pounds of this activated charcoal around the garage, both hanging and laying on the ground. This does not work for this purpose. I hope this may save someone a few bucks in the future with this issue.Garage floors are porous and you will find they can soak up a gas spill and dry in seconds. Kitty litter and baking soda have had no effect on the spill. I recommend many cycles of scrubbing with a degreaser like dishsoap, then a scented floor cleaner, then bleach with rinsing in between each of these. Use the scented floor cleaner last unless you want to smell mostly bleach at the end. Plan on disposing of the mop, scrub brush, and cleanup towel when finished. I can still smell the odor when standing directly over the spill but this type of cleaning has greatly diminished the odor and we are now able to close our garage door with our central air on with no odor going through the house. Now I'm off to research products that are specifically made for gas and oil removal.

The title should be 10x 1lb bags of carbon.
I should have read the description harder as I thought I was getting 10x 10lb bags. Which would have been an insane amount of carbon, but seeing as some 5 gallon buckets of name-brand stuff were about the same price, I am just a tad disappointed. So overall I feel like I've overpaid for something I don't need (I have my own media bags). But since this item isn't sold by Amazon themselves, I will suck it up and keep these convenient little bags for my inside aquarium. As for quality of materials, the bags and carbon seem to be new-old-stock of Dr's Foster and Smith pellet carbon and coarse mesh media bags. So the quality is excellent. Very low dust.

Dust!
Product is as described, but far too dusty! As other's stated, it is a very dusty product and needs to be rinsed thoroughly before any use. I would recommend a hose outside in the yard or a bucket with multiple rinsing. It is extremely dusty! It will create a great deal of charcoal sludge. Living in an apartment, I rinsed them out in my bathtub and now my tub is permanently stained. Don't make the same mistake as me. Would it hurt the manufacturer to rinse the product off in bulk before packaging to remove much of the dust like every other charcoal supplier? Then people could simply give it a quick rinse as required before use. (I have never seen charcoal this dusty!) Though I purchased this to aid in air filtration, I was once an avid aquarium enthusiast with multiple aquariums and this would definitely cloud a tank, maybe kill fish, and require a vacuuming to clean the sediment if it wasn't rinsed before use. I am not sure if it is really doing much for air filtration as I have no VOC meters, etc. to determine any variation. However, it is cheap for activated charcoal. But, is it worth the price of my bathtub?

good for pet odors
having never bought activated charcoal pellets before this is my review:i eat fish but do not own any fish. i did not buy them for filtering an aquarium.i bought these pellets to place around my old home with very old wood floors that was on the losing end of some pet's bladder....and when the summer hits, i get a noseful too.the pellets were very dusty but came in nice sturdy mesh bags. i rinsed and rinsed, let it dry and placed them over the questionable areas and elsewhere since i got the 10 pack.they've been helpful in cleaning the air and should last for a while.i read online that the pellets can be "recharged" by placing them in the sun about once a month.

10 Lbs 10 Bags of charcoal gold!
I was shopping for charcoal for home deodorizing use and found this gem. The media bags are amazing! I'd imagine it would be so helpful for any filter usage to have them in this format, and it was even more so for me and what I had planned for them.I rinsed them, then placed them around my house, and noticed a marked improvement in air quality. I usually have sinus problems all year long, but I haven't had to buy Flonase since I purchased this. Just as wonderful as those fancy 100% pure grade grass fed non-GMO bamboo raw carbon detox things they sell. Thanks for such an easy to use product!

Smiling
My fish seem to be happier. Product arrived on time. It did have a bit more charcoal dust all over inside the box than I expected. Might ought to place the charcoal into a better bag to seal for shipment, but the charcoal itself appears to be fine. I just ran it under cool water to remove the charcoal dust, placed it in my filter housing, sealed it up and powered it on and fish came over and smiled at me. Good enough for me.

Exactly what I was needing.
I absolutely love this item! It comes in it's own mesh zippered bags so there is no transferring from one bag to another. Be aware that your hands will have charcoal on them after holding them. That is just par for the course. Now I use these around my house to help control whatever odors that may appear like our shoe shelf area.

Very well-packaged. Did not come pre-adsorbed, like others have. Not very dusty.
Well-packaged -- each pound came in a durable mesh zipper-bag that seems like it will be reusable, and then that bag was well-wrapped in a water-and-air-resistant tyvek-like wrapper, making each pound of charcoal individually wrapped to avoid exposure to ambient air and moisture. The packaging seemed successful, since the charcoal had not picked up any smells prior to use. Pellets seem to be in good shape (not crushed) and charcoal was only mildly dusty.
