Foundations of Clinical Research: Applications to Practice (3rd Edition)

If you have a rehabilitation background and need to understand statistics this is a great book. I bought this book as a supplement for my statistics class. It explains concepts so well! Our professor changed to this book the next year. All the OTs and PTs in my PhD program have bought this book. This is in my keep forever collection. Everyone in my department has the book and only loans it out with strict instructions for its return.

I have to say this book is excellent. I have bought a few books to upskill me on statistics and research methods but this book is the best book (of any type) I have read in a long time. It explains everything really well. I am doing a PhD is genetics and so require heaps of stats etc and it's great. Would recommend to anyone wanting a good research reference for statistics and clinical research methods.

As a physician-scientist with virtually no prior experience in biostatistics, I needed an introductory book for design and analysis of clinical studies. This hardcover book (~800 pages) is a great start, and concepts are not over-simplified!Pros: it is very well written, clinically oriented, explanations are concise, lucid without being over-simplified -not trivial to achieve. Just enough mathematical formulas to support the text. Tables are well chosen and informative. Used as a reference book, information needed is easily retrieved.Cons: all examples are poorly chosen, and based on physical therapy; they are not clear even for a medical profesional unless you are a physiotherapist/rehab medicine or orthopedic surgeon. Importanlty, there is not enough information about multivariate analysis, this is a major drawback.If you have a superficial knowledge in biostatics for clinical studies and need solid base this is a fantastic book for you. I recommend it wihout hesitation.

My wife has her Masters Degree in Public Health and is a physician, so she knows something about research methodology and statistics, and she feels it is quite good! I like the examples and the layout, font and visual presentation of the book itself is attractive and doesn't drain me. Very impressed!

We had looked at previous versions and were glad to see that it had been updated. It has been an excellent source for the medical students, residents, fellows and some research nurses at our facility. We have been having a series of seminars on how to get research projects started.

The book is easy to read and covers the basics. I'm only giving it 3 stars because the cover was damaged. I know I could've just sent it back in for a replacement, but I needed to use the book and don't really have the option of being without it for two weeks.

This is such a valuable resource. Bought it for the tDPT program I am enrolled in. I will keep it as an excellent resource. So well written.
