Alas, unusable
Alas, this device suffers from awful audio background buzzing when in transmit mode rendering it effectively unusable.I have tried it on another TV and radio with the same issue. When I tested a friend's bluetooth (BT) transmitter instead, all was fine. ie. This unit is defective. I also tried swapping the audio cable - all to no avail. It's a shame as this unit is discreet, compact and easy to use. I wanted it so I can use Archeer BT headphones with my Roberts Stream93i internet radio that has no BT capability. Instead I have purchased a similar (albeit more expensive) BT Transmitter device which works just fine.I am rather disappointed.NOTE.I see some confusion in other reviews. This is NOT a BT dongle that will be recognised by, say, Windows (to add full BT capabilities to a PC).Instead, this device is for audio only and it uses USB solely for 5v power. As such, the audio cable is essential. Thus the device can be used as a 'transmitter' (for example, adding BT capability to a TV so BT headphones can be used) or as a 'receiver' (for example, connected to a hi-fi system so music from a mobile can be played). It is a simple but (if it worked) useful little device.

It's not what you probably think it is
This is a strange device and almost certainly bought by people like me who think it's one thing and only find out when it arrives, that it's something else altogether. In a nutshell, this is an audio stream retransmitter; it is not a PC or tablet dongle. The PC or tablet is unaware it is plugged in; there are no drivers. The audio stream is provided over the cable and the USB port is used to provide power to the device. That's it; the cable when plugged into a source or the input port of a device like a speaker, headphones etc, either transmits audio out or receives it in using Bluetooth. How you connect this to a non-intelligent Bluetooth device - like headphones or a Bluetooth speaker - in the absence of a display to tell you what's going on, I've no idea. Having to unplug it and plug it back in to change the direction of the audio stream seems a crazy idea to me but, without a switch or true duplex - both directions at once - capabilities there is probably no other way of doing it.There are probably better, easier to configure and use, devices than this. Hopefully, I've now ordered one - see Avantree DG40S USB Bluetooth 4.0 Adapter Dongle for PC Laptop Computer Desktop Stereo Music, Skype Call, Keyboard, Mouse, Support All Windows 10 8.1 8. Fingers crossed, I'll let you know.

Tried everything, couldn't even get it to be recognised by any PC
I tried everything I could think of to get this to work.3 computers,1 laptop, 3 versions of Windows Operating Systems (7 , 8 and 10)Not one of them recognised the device when it was plugged in (USB 2 and USB 3 ports)All came up with 'unrecognised device'.I returned it for a refund and bought another type that worked straight away. Not good quality, I would not recommend this item.

Waste of Money
My PC wouldn't let me connect any Bluetooth devices to it, because Bluetooth active. Product manual only mentions using the 3.5mm to connect the transmitter to an audio device, and then connect a Bluetooth speaker to the transceiver. Like what does that even mean, who needs that functionality? I just want to connect a Bluetooth device to my PC.My PC doesn't recognize the device, as in it doesn't show up anywhere on my devices. It gets worse, the listed functionality for the receiver mode, is to connect the 3.5mm to a wired speaker and then connect your phone to the transceiver, to play music into that speaker. WHO WANTS OR NEEDS THAT. WHY NOT JUST PLAY MUSIC FROM YOUR PC?Product simply doesn't work as advertised, and what it does do is pointless and preforms terribly at.

I finally understood how to make it work!
It's not clear at all but once you figure it out it's easy!If you want this to work to listen to music you need to connect it to the USB port of your device (i.e. Windows 10 PC) and then connect the audio jack from the headphone-out cable into the USB plug. It will then transmit the music to your bluetooth device.

Didn't work.
It didn't work at all. I tried this on two different windows 10 pc's and it flashed blue and the when unplugged and inserted again it flashed red but windows didn't recognise it. Maybe I received a faulty one but I returned it and won't get another one.

Do not buy cheap in price I should have known better. Dont buy it.
The device was cheaply looking and just by holding it I could tell it was made that way too. It wouldn't work at all, I could get the different colours showing on the device but it wouldn't connect or pair at all. Dont buy choose a different one.

Discreet bluetooth car receiver
Very discreet unit for bluetooth car audio. Works really well. It has different modes for connect, receive and transmit which you cycle through by unpluging and plugging back in. It sometimes doesn't remember which one it was in last so you have to cycle through them until its on the right setting. Apart from that it Works really well and sounds great.
