No you don't need a wireless mouse. This adapter enables you to connect a ps2 mouse or a ps2 keyboard (or both) to a USB port on your computer. To do this, you plug the ps2 connector on your mouse or keyboard (or both) into the ps2 connector (s) on the adapter and then connect the USB plug on the adapter to a USB port on your computer. Mice and keyboards these days are either wireless or USB so you only need this adapter if you have an older ps2 mouse or keyboard that you want to connect to your computer. I had to buy this adapter when I built a new computer recently so that I could get into the BIOS during the Power on Self Test (POST), which requires that you use the keyboard F2 or Delete keys during the POST. I have a wireless keyboard, which is not enabled until after the POST is completed; USB ports are enabled during POST but I don't have a USB keyboard so I had to use an old ps2 keyboard and connect it to a USB port on the computer, using the adapter, so that the keyboard was enabled during the POST. I don't see any downside to the connection with this adapter. My device works the same as always with no loss of performance.

I have no experience using this converter with the XBOX, but it worked well connecting a PS2 mouse to a USB mouse port on a PC.
