I’m conflicted about how to rate this. I think it’s nice but a bit overpriced. It’s much smaller than I imagined. I wanted something small for my coffee table more decorative than functional so not a big deal. It’s really to small to actually play on but I have other sets for that. The board is inset in the case and made of plastic. Even though it’s plastic it doesn’t come off as cheap, looks like glass tile at first look but upon closer inspection you realize it’s plastic. The wood is laminate and doesn’t ooze quality but doesn’t seem cheap either. All of it seems well made. The chess pieces are solid metal with decent heft for their size. But again much smaller in person. Think green army men size maybe a bit smaller. They have pretty good detail and the copper patina ones look good but you can tell it’s faux up close. Obviously the majority of the cost of this set is the chessmen. The case is molded inside to fit all the pieces if you don’t want to display them. In my opinion this is pretty much a decorative set not really good to play on as it’s too small. Comes in a nice gift box that reminded me of a box of chocolates. Definitely recommend for a chess fan that wants to display a set but can’t recommend for actual play because of reasons stated. Price could be better as well.
