Amazing. Light, thin, just works. Great second monitor for portable use.
I found this accidentally. I was trying to find anyone who made a smaller second monitor for a desktop application. Saw reviews for several like this and this one had best reviews. It is amazing. Just opened the box and am using it, say within 10 minutes. Screen is plenty excellent quality. You can adjust the brightness (a big weakness for competing models). This is very thing and very light. It would be easy to pack away for a trip where I was going to work and wanted second monitor handy. It appears to be very well made. I am super impressed with this unit and highly recommend it.UPDATE. I've been using this for a few months now. LOVE IT. It is really great and it's so thin and light, I now travel with it. I never thought I'd be doing that, but the second monitor gig is so valuable, if I'm traveling for more than an overnight, I just throw it in my suitcase so I can go dual-monitor in the hotel. It is exceptionally well made and has worked every time. I use it with Windows 7 connected to a Lenovo laptop. I'm sure it would work great with any Windows 7 machine. Some have asked if it could work as primary monitor. it's really not built for that, so I don't know. And it's not such high resolution that most people would want to use it as primary monitor. However, I suspect if you had a desktop and wanted to use this as primary, you might be able to make that work IF you used some monitor to first install the drivers for it, so that after installed, those drivers could take over and detect it from the USB connection when you normally started up. Just guessing. But it's not meant to be a primary. But it's a fantastic, excellent, second monitor for portability. I actually now use it as a stationary (when not traveling) second monitor on my system at home (I have better second monitors in my two offices outside the home--meaning, full, regular, free standing monitors). But it's really turned out to be a great second monitor for my uses at home. One tip for Windows 7 users. Since this has a little kick stand of it's own out back of it (it folds up), it will set about 2 to 6 inches lower than your primary screen for whatever computer you are using it with. When you go into "screen resolution" settings screen on Windows 7 and see your two monitors there, you can adjust the relative positions of the two monitors. Grab and drag the icon for this second monitor and pull it down relative to the other, click "apply." Do this until you get it just right so that when your mouse cursor leaves the screen of your primary, it shows up at the exact same height for your eyes on the secondary screen. If you don't adjust the relative location of the monitors with the icons, you will spend a lot of time hunting for your cursor, cause it's going to consistently be higher or lower based on how much higher or lower your second screen is. This is a very cool adjustment very few people know to do with secondary monitors. And it's one of the things that Microsoft got really right with Windows 7.

Very elegant looking companion, even for a Macbook Air
Quick background: I am a software developer who likes to work in coffee shops but hate having only one screen. Now on to initial impressions...Let's start off with the way it looks. It's matte black, with hardly any buttons front and back. It's very simple and it looks extremely elegant, even next to a Macbook air. I imagine it looks perfect next to a Lenovo Ideapad. It's very light, I would say probably the same weight with the cover as a 13" Macbook Air and lighter without the cover. As far the screen goes, it's definitely not par with a high end laptop. But with that said, Apple's attention to their screens tends to spoil people, so I don't want to give the impression that the screen is bad at all.I was really scared that the screen would look very, very cheap ( think most digital photo frames ), but it's nowhere close to that. The screen is nice on the eyes and it's reasonably sharp. It's just the colors that may be a problem for certain people. Like others have mentioned, if your work requires extreme color accuracy, then you should not put those items on this monitor. With that said, if you have been working on a low to mid-end laptop ( say $300-$800 ), the screen might actually be an upgrade. It is rather good for what it is.On to more technical stuff...The screen does indeed run off 1 USB port on a MacBook Air ( mid 2011 ), so that will be quite awesome when I go do some work at Starbucks. The ability to adjust screen brightness is a plus. I'm not doing any scientific measurements here, but its brightest setting does seem to be on par with the MBA's brightest setting. So quick funny aside, one of the reviews I saw mentioned that the monitor is so light and that it's only propped by 1 stand that it might be ( too ) easy to knock it over. And while writing the paragraph above to test the screen brightness, my hand accidentally ran into the upper corner and I did actually almost knock it over...Back on track. I do believe that your processor determines how smoothly you can play back video at full screen. The MBA seemed to handle it just fine on full-screen 720p Youtube videos. I also played a short 1080p camera video and while it may not have been exactly 24fps, it wasn't unacceptably choppy. One thing I did notice though is typing delay. The average population will probably not notice this, but if you happen to be an extremely fast typist ( say, 90+ wpm ), you will experience a noticeable delay under certain conditions. One such condition is taking a typing test on sites that has a bit of Flash animations. When the screen is mostly static, it appears to be just fine. I would probably just put most of my typing on the main screen.Ok, if you have made it this far, you must be really on the verge of getting this monitor, but can't quite put away all your concerns yet. So here's my opinion:If you really value portability ( symptoms: you love your ultrabooks and/or like to work in random places ) and you are a professional who gets a big productivity boost by having two screens, get the monitor! I felt like I spent 5 million hours comparing and reading reviews between this, the Toshiba one and the AOC one and concluded that this was the best for the money to quality ratio. If the colors had been a tad better, I would've given it 5 stars.TL;DRmonitor = pretty boss

Defective
This is my first time writing a review. I think it shows I frustrated I am. I purchased this product to use as a second monitor at work, mostly for viewing excel and pdf documents. It is very slim and light, and while it worked, it was great. But it only worked the first three times I used it and then for no explicable reason the screen just stopped working- It was gray and blank and I could not even get my company's IT staff to fix it. Lenovo support call center sent me another "serviceable used" monitor, but that one only worked for a day as well and then started showing a blurry colorful screen. I think the support call center would have been willing to send me another monitor, but I have no trust in this product at this point so I just gave up and requested a refund through amazon just now. I would stay away from this product.
