Ordered this to make keeping my kitchen scraps for the compost bin nicer than a big bowl on my counter. I chose this one over the large one because it has an inner bin. Unfortunately, with a family of 5 this is just too small. It over flows in a single large dinner meal prep with lots of veggies. I wish I would have just gotten the larger one. It is adorable on my counter, does not smell, and would be great for a couple, or single person. It seems well made. I may be saving up to purchase the larger one and giving this one to a friend. I really like it and wish it worked better for us, but that is not the fault of the product. Update: I have been using this for some time now, and it does do as it says it will. There is no odor that accumulates, it is easy to wash the inner bin and it still looks great on my counter. Haven’t upgraded to the larger one yet, and I still wish to get that one at some point because this one is still too small for a full meal of scraps. I would highly recommend this size for a small family.

My husband and I bought a small barrel composter for the backyard about a year ago for our household of 2 and had been putting our kitchen scraps in a Rubbermaid container on the kitchen counter for easy transport outside. It didn't have a lid and it looked terrible, so when I came across this composting container I was really excited. The negative reviews concerned me but we'd been keeping kitchen scraps on the counter for the last year without bug issues so it made me think those reviewers were using it to actually compost their scraps, not as a holder to transport them outside. For anyone reading this review, this is not meant to actually compost your scraps on your kitchen counter. It's just meant as a pretty scrap collector. You still need an outdoor composter. We've been using it for a few weeks now and absolutely love it. It looks great, it's super easy to transport outside and empty, the filter blocks any smell, and we've had zero fruit flies from the banana peels we've put in there (we eat a lot of bananas). The only thing, and this is a me thing, is that since it's not an open clear container, I forget to empty it as often and the scraps start to mold. Gross, I know lol. But the container washes out great with soap and water once I do empty it. I'm very happy with our purchase and highly recommend it to anyone who composts and needs an attractive countertop scrap container.

Ok, this is kinda gross... but, I wanted to try it out. I left food scraps in the composite bucket for over a week... took it outside to open, and so glad I did! Inside the house, there was no evidence of rotting food, no smell, no bugs, nothing. I open the lid outside and a bunch of fruit flies come pouring out along with the awful smell. The food had even liquified somewhat in the bottom, yuck! I emptied it, sprayed with a hose then put the inner plastic bin (which I am so glad it has and I don't have to use bags) and put in my dishwasher. Came out spic n span clean. Only 1 negative, the handle is metal on the plastic bucket, and if you try an experiment like I did, you will notice some metal damage from some source I'm not quite sure of. But some steel wool and it looks much better. Great bucket, perfect size and the inner plastic bin is fabulous!

This works. It looks just like the product photos. We’ve only been using it for a few weeks, and I only put coffee grounds and egg shells in it for now — I notice no smell from it in the kitchen. The lid does not fit tightly, but that also means it’s easy to remove one-handed. I had to apply a little force to the inner bucket handle to bend it inwards a bit, because it was pushing outward on the inner bucket, causing it to bulge out and be not-quite-circular. That was solely a cosmetic issue, but it bothered me. It is true that the inner bucket doesn’t make great use of the space occupied by the metal outer container, but it’s still plenty large for our purposes. So far, I like it, and while it feels a little pricey for what it is, given the other choices out there, I’d probably buy it again.

This is the perfect size for the countertop. I love the entire thing. The cover fits nicely and yet is easy to remove. There is zero odor coming from it. Zero leakage. I have had zero fruit flies, black flies or gnats. I love that the plastic bucket is so easy to remove. I keep a bag in it for easy of removal with no cleanup. Would definitely buy again!

I had originally been using a screw top cylindrical plastic jug for compost scraps. It worked, but it wasn't pretty. I wanted something pretty, functional, and easy to clean. I fill ours up twice a week and dump it just as often. We are a family of four and we eat a lot of veggies. It's easy to dump, contains any odors, has a handle for each part separately, and has a carbon filter included. We haven't had flies yet and the ants haven't located it yet, either.

I have been composting for years and frustrated with the kitchen bins. I had to use plastic bags inside that would become smelly and wet. The lids fit on the inside of the bin which meant that they corroded. When I researched bins that had removable peels I was very interested. This one seemed the most well-made And the company took pride in their product. I have put it through the most difficult of circumstances and it has excelled. The filter is so much easier to replace, the interior pale is made with high-quality sturdy plastic with equally as sturdy handle. The lid fits on the outside so that it will not corrode . I find the pail very easy to clean. I use a worm factory instead of a composter. I like this 1 gallon size because it does not take up much room on the kitchen counter, and I can feed the worms often. The added, plus to all this excellent quality is that it is very attractive and easy on the I in your kitchen. UPDATE: I have been using this product now for several months and the quality is astounding. it gets daily use and still looks brand new. It is so sturdy and well-made. The inner bucket easily rinses and the outside container is easily washed. Everything about this product has such quality. It has made composting now a very easy and enjoyable task. I just hope this wonderful company doesn’t get sold to somebody who wants the profit and decreases the quality.

We do a lot of organic gardening at my house and we were looking for an elegant, odor free — and insect free — way to collect compost in the kitchen. This product is superb! It takes up very little space in the kitchen and the design is such that it blends in very well and does not stand out. At first, I was a little wary because it is relatively small in size, but that is a good thing. You definitely want a small bin in your kitchen. Anything that is too large will tempt you to only empty it a few times a week. You still need to take a hike out to your compost heap once a day to dump it out and give it a good rinse. But, it will definitely keep your kitchen clean and odor free. Highly recommended!

We just started using it a week ago but so far so good. We ordered two different ones and tried the other one first and it was horrible. We then switched to this one and it’s working out pretty great so far.

I wanted to freshen up my kitchen with a new compost bin, and this one fit my decor. I was worried that at it's price it would be tacky garbage... but it's quite nice! Contains the smell. Looks cute.

We've been using this as our kitchen compost bin for two years, and I'm still super happy with it! It looks cute and clean, and sits out on our counter-top. We don't use the filters, but it doesn't get smelly since we take out the compost every few days. It's easy to clean, and I think it's a great size for our household (we cook a lot, but also have easy access to our outdoor compost bin). It has aged well; the only signs of wear are some stains on the inside (I haven't tried to deep-clean it, maybe they would come out), and one small chip and one dent on the lid. Would recommend!

Received the product exactly as it’s shown in the pictures. Zero smells escape this and that includes onion peels. The removable plastic pail makes it easy to clean and keeps the metal enamelled shell in nice condition. I like that it’s nice to look at as well. The size to me is perfect but I also have easy access to my yard waste bin outside. I could see the size being annoying if you live in an apartment and have to run it down to the underground daily.

Conceals all the organic food smell until the refuse bag is full! Saves refuse bags!
