Basics of Web Design: HTML5 & CSS

Written for programmers...not designers
I am a designer, and unfortunately to stay current in my field, I need to know CSS & HTML, and every other software on the planet! I am taking a class at my community college and this is the required book....actually we have the e-book...the version before this one....which is FULL of typos and grammatical errors BTW....really, an ebook? Shouldn't you be able to correct it on the fly? Anyway, this book is definitely written for someone who has experience with coding. Once I understood the concepts, I was able to break it down into a visual sense, but it took a fair bit of time. If you are a designer I would not waste my money on this! I would recommend the Head First (HTML with CSS & XHTML) books by Elisabeth & Eric Freeman, from O'Reilly Media, Inc.

The most helpful book on programming. Easy to comprehend with abundant hand-on exercises.
This is an excellent, well-written book on HTML5 which makes coding webpages a breezy experience. The text is concise and to the point, the exercises have very clear instructions and are easy to follow. If you are the type of a person that learns better by doing and applying theory to practice than this book is for you.
