An abandoned tanker ship crashes into the Oresund Bridge, on the border between Sweden and Denmark. Onboard are five Swedish and Danish youths, chained below deck, unconscious. Investigating the incident is Scandinavia's oddest couple: Swedish detective Saga Noren, hampered by primitive social skills, and Martin Rohde from Denmark, still reeling from the death of his son. Theirs is a friendship born from having been through hell together on the job; adversity has given them grace for the other's weaknesses. More bizarre crimes follow the tanker incident and they discover they're up against a deranged activist group who will stop at nothing to convey their message: The World is Bigger than Us. As the body count escalates, Saga and Martin know that they're running out of time and that the next attack could result in the death of thousands.

Excellent detective series, acting and filmography. Kept me on the edge of my couch.
Excellent detective series, acting and filmography. Kept me on the edge of my couch. I only speak English, but I enjoy hearing other languages, so I purchase both Season 1 & 2, listened in the Swedish & Danish languages, but had English Subtitles on. I really enjoyed both seasons. I won't give you any spoilers, but my heart was hit hard. I also purchase the 1st episode of Season 3 just to see if I want to purchase Season 3. I am still on the fence about that but will be sure to provide a review if I do purchase Season 3. Season 4 is not yet available.

Five Stars for Seasons one and two.
The first two seasons of The Bridge, however filled with horror, were feats of writing and acting. The characters playing Saga and Martin make the show so watchable and lovely. Saga with her aggresive Asbergers was just an amazing actress and her relationship with Martin was the reason we kept watching here in my home. But for series 3 which we bought to watch after season 2, was SPOILER ALERTS Coming here:Season three in its 10 episodes was so weak by comparison. Martin, who disappeared at the end of Season 2, jailed for 10 years so we understand in Season 3 is barely mentioned and never seen again. Maybe the actor died or had a dispute with the program but they never tried to let us see him not one single shot of the man. Saga and Henrick were a much different team and so many of the murder stories were not interesting. In addition, they killed off Hans, recently married to another great character in the Swedish police force, leaving a psychotic woman as the commander. She treats Saga like a fool, which is anything but true, and ultimately gets rid of the main character. I think the writers did such a poor job with Season 3 as to ruin all that came before and I rue having wasted my time on this facilime of the real "The Bridge" which should have ended with Season 2. Have I conveyed how much those who created a great show lost during the truly awful Season 3. Do not buy it if you haven't already as it is a farce and really an insane finale to a previously great show. Shame!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The greatest single season of noir ever shown on TV
I could watch it 20 times and never get tired of it. Gifted actors & a mind-boggling story. But not for weak hearts and stomachs -- it is really, REALLY dark.

Hang on for round 2
This must be what your mind sees when you read a very absorbing book. Many Americans will not like the extended formats that series 1 and 2 have, Do not expect to figure these mysteries out in the first 7/8ths of the show. There are many activities going on at the same time and many others that happen along the way to add depth. First off, the languages, Swedish/Danish are kept for realism, and you have subtitles (a turnoff for a lot of Americans), and the color temperature that the movie is shot in is appropriately foreboding, but the real attraction has been the interaction between the main characters- Saga, the Swedish detective with what seems to be Aspergers syndrome, but she functions very highly in her job, and Martin, her Danish counterpart, with a history of infidelity that haunts him and the story line. Without tipping the cards, all I can say is I can't wait for the third series, now in the making. Top shelf Nordic Noir. I will purchase other series with gusto. Tak!

Well wrought, compelling
An outstanding series. The female protagonist is complex, very interesting, unusual characterization. She has endured a trauma we are not entirely privy to. Seems autistic at times but does not fit any particular pathology. A psychological dissociative state that is an invention of the writers I suspect. Manifests as brutal honesty to a fault and lack of emotional engagement. You feel for her. She is very strong and very vulnerable at the same time but there is not enough back story to explain her odd behavior. This in itself is an effective ploy. Keeps you wondering and caring. Addictive watching. Excellent storytelling. It is quite dark. Scandinavian dark. Extremely well wrought.

Best cop show ever.
The writing, directing, and acting of this Nordic Noir gem is exceptional.Sophia Hellin is amazing as Saga Norén, Lanskrit Malmö (watch it, and you’ll get that last remark) the only drawback is that it is only available in the original Swedish and Danish with subtitles (but I actually prefer that). Unlike American cop shows which wrap up a crime in a one hour episode, this show spends a complete season on each major crime with a different back story each episode. If you’re just wanting to be entertained without having to think, this is not the show for you.

Not as good as season ine
One main character left. The main woman character is still great but the story line was not as riveting.

Why is Episode 2 missing from Amazon Video?
Update: Both Episode 2 and Episode 6 have been added, but I had to pay extra to add them to the Season 2 that I originally purchased--which I think is crappy of Amazon. The series is still 4 stars, but Amazon get no stars on this purchase.I bought this Amazon Video thinking that it was the ENTIRE Season 2 but now find that Episode 2 is missing. I'm hoping that this is just a glitch and Amazon will add the missing episode. That said, I enjoyed Season 1 very much--good story, interesting characters, different location and laws make this a great variant from American police dramas. If available, I use subtitles for everything I watch, so the subtitles are not a problem for me; in fact, I find dubbing into English more off-putting than having to read subtitles. So I really hope Amazon will deliver the missing episode and give us Season 3, too.

Almost the equal of the first season...
I ordered Borgan by mistake on my lovefilm account and popped it in the DVD player with low expectations. OMG! It was fantastic. The result is that my wife and I have become addicted to the 'Scandic Noir' genre. So, here is the the second season of the Bridge. It carries on the relationship between the charismatic Martin and the equally compelling, if slightly odd, Saga. Having read the reviews of season one, it's easy to see why some folk would baulk at the plot devices (causing my wife and me to shout at the screen 'that wouldn't happen!) but the real reason why this programme has grasped so many people's imagination is the relationship between the two lead characters.Saga's complete lack of social skills is a joy to behold. Saying what most of us only think must have caused collective open mouths and jaw dropping across the country on Saturday nights and must have caused countless conversations round various workplaces on Monday mornings! Only occasionally will Martin pitch in and gently advise her that her approach doesn't always garner the best results. Perhaps there are moments when this is played for laughs - Saga's 'enquiry' about male genitalia is one such moment but it's perhaps it's worth remembering that this is entertainment. It's not a police training video nor a public information film about individuals with a different approach to life.I do hope there will be a third season. We HAVE to find out where these characters go.Superb!
