There was a fair bit of guesswork involved in getting things connected to this and working. If using two power supplies (one for controller and one for the load), make sure you connect the grounds together. The controller will operate from a 12 volt supply, but it will struggle to read any inputs. The software can be found for free, but expect to do some searching. This thing is rugged. It survived a couple of miswires, though I did wire it in a way that I could quickly undo it if it was wrong. The software likes to set the default communication speed to 19.something kbps. Set it to the lower one, even if your adaptor supports the higher speed. The controller itself only supports the slower one. Review: The Gx developer Ver.8 that comes with the fx1n-20Mr trainer will program this Plc - If you need a work around for this device simply delete the device memory by changing the D value dint like the fact i had to play with the Gx developer ver8 software for like 2hr's to make it program the plc like the fact for under $200 i got the 20mr and the training software and the 32mr plc... and did not pay +500 to 1000 USD.. You have to have the software to configure it. The software is free if you know where to get it. it runs on a 32 bit machine. It will not run on 64 bit. you can contact me if you want and i can give you a copy of it. it also comes with another package of software for another controller if you ever get one. and Allen Bradley 1000 series I think. I am running the software on win 10 32 bit. you will also need a cable to connect the computer to teh PLC the plc uses a 9 pin serial and the other end of the cable normally is a db nine also. as serial outputs are not to common any more the cable will be a db9 to a USB you can find them easily mine has firmware 360 on it. and it works. it takes a bit to get it going and get use to it. No way to write or read programs. *by J***S on October 16, 2022* It doesn't work at all. software can't communicate to the PLC; I try different USB to RS 232 cable converters. try it under windows 10, windows 11, two different computers, change all possible combinations in the port communication and nothing happened, never had access to the PLC.
