Review ''The [John Patitucci Electric Guitar Quartet] has a personal dimension for Mr. Patitucci, as a celebration of the music he grew up absorbing in the East Flatbush section of Brooklyn: blues, funk and soul as well as jazz. ''Brooklyn,'' an engagingly earthy new album on his Three Faces label, covers that mix of styles, but with a consistent sonic palette. Mr. Patitucci, who has earned distinction as a virtuoso acoustic bassist, plays electric exclusively on the recording, favoring a semi-hollow six-string bass guitar recently made for him by Yamaha.'' --NY Times, May 14, 2015

Great Performances
Two top-notch guitarists, an electric bassist second to none, and a consistently engaging drummer, how could they go wrong? The music has a lot of variety. There’s some straight-up bluesy fusion, but mostly this sounds like a jazz album to me. I’ve been a fan of Patitucci’s acoustic bass, especially with Wayne Shorter and lately on a great new Antonio Sanchez album in a trio with Joe Lovano. (I kind of ignored the Chick Corea Elektric Band, perhaps foolishly.) But it’s fun to hear Patitucci on electric bass. He sounds so solid and confident – like he’s just putting the notes exactly where they go, no sweat and no gimmicks. I’ve been listening to it a lot and it always draws me in.

Patitucci Positively Delights
This is a wonderful listening experience. While I liked it the first time through, repeated listening has rewarded me with new delights each time I hear it. John Patitucci has long been a favorite bassist of mine. He's been partnered with Brian Blade in Wayne Shorter's terrific quartet for almost thirty years. I expected (and got) great things from the rhythm section. The two guitarists are a revelation to me. I am not familiar with either Adam Rogers or Steve Cardenas, but both bring chops and sensitivity to the proceedings. These tunes don't bowl you over, but rather quietly demand your attention. There is plenty going on. The guitar players seem to go to great lengths to listen to each other, and react in a tasteful and tuneful manner to what the other is playing. The interplay is fabulous. In addition, Patitucci takes several solos on a bass custom made for this recording. These are well constructed and very lyrical (not the usual bass solos that try to cram in a maximum number of notes with no thought to either melody or feeling).Overall, this is a great effort by all concerned, and will reward those who take the time to check it out. Wonderful stuff indeed.

This album is frighteningly beautiful, diverse
There is only one John Patitucci. This album is frighteningly beautiful, diverse, visceral and foot-stomping. He never sits back in his music, just always improving and this album is a reflection of his musical roots ( which are wide). It took me weeks just to get past the first two tracks - they are amazing, driving and beautiful.
