Nope. Grits are ground corn, period. Cornmeal, also from corn, is very fine in texture while grits are a courser texture. Hominy grits are also from corn, but processed differently. So, if you want true grits, this product would be it. While I am familiar with what you are talking about, because I am also from the Deep South (Charleston, SC), grits is ground corn.
