Stylish, Durable, and Reliable – Just Know Your Ports and Formats
I really like these LaCie rugged hard drives. The design is solid, the rubber bumper feels protective, and it’s quick when transferring files. I’ve been using mine mainly for backups and archiving, and I already plan to buy more. While it’s not the most portable external drive on the market, it’s still small enough for my needs. I take it in my backpack while traveling and it holds up great. The rugged design isn’t just for looks it’s functional. One thing I wish is that it had a USB-C port on the drive itself. The cable included has USB-C on one end, but the actual port on the drive is Micro-B USB 3.0. It works fine, but I don’t love the wide connector design, and it doesn’t feel as durable or modern as USB-C. Hopefully newer versions fix this. In terms of compatibility, I did run into an issue when using the default format. I initially had it set to ExFAT for cross-platform use, but on my MacBook it caused a frustrating issue where the drive would not eject properly it would stay stuck in the “ejecting” state forever. Once I reformatted it to a Mac-native format (APFS in my case), the problem disappeared completely. So just a heads-up for Mac users: reformat the drive to avoid this problem. As for data loss, I’ve had zero issues. I’ve done heavy backups and constant use without a single corrupted file or problem. On heat, it runs surprisingly cool. Even after transferring large amounts of data, it only gets slightly warm—nothing unusual or concerning. Lastly, I love how this drive looks. The classic LaCie orange bumper gives it character, and it fits perfectly with the clean, modern setup I’m going for. Overall, it’s a great external drive for people who want a balance of performance, durability, and style. Just keep in mind the older port design and formatting needs, depending on your system

10/10 recommend (from a photographer!!)
So far so good! Super easy to use and compatible on a MacBook Pro. The orange cover is also great for protection. Big enough not to lose but small enough for convenience. Love this!!!

Flimsy connection cord and never ejects properly (always have to force eject)
I'm not sure if I have a faulty product or if this is standard of the product. I purchased this after seeing many people online using it. I figured if this many people use it, it must be a reliable product. At first, I was very happy with it. But, about two week into using it, I noticed that some times when I would try to eject, it would never eject. Then it just started becoming a thing that happened every time I used it which was once a week. For context, I'm a macbook user. It always claims Finder is using it or some other program is using it so it can't eject. I'll close down all my programs and still have that issue. So I am always forced to use the "force eject" option. The other issues is the cord. I so much as sneeze in the direction of the Lacie cord and it disconnects. Yes, that is a semi exaggeration. But just a moment ago, I was uploading a document online from my Lacie. I think I moved my elbow on my desk not realizing it had tapped the cord, boom, "Lacie Ejected Improperly." Then the online program said there was a connection problem and erased everything I had typed and the attachment I was uploading from the Lacie. I was (and still am) furious! Now I have to remember what I wrote and do the attachment again. I'm just done with this. I've been using this item for 1.5 years and giving it the benefit of the doubt each time thinking I'm the problem. I try to troubleshoot but nothing fixes this. I always check that the cord is nicely and completely plugged in, it still somehow comes off. Honestly, it's given me more headaches than made my life easier. I'd say, pass on this item if you have to use it often. I think this probably would be better use for me if I wasn't relying on it to connect properly and then to upload documents on a weekly basis. This might be better used for people only needing to store items every few months and who don't need to access those files often.

This device does exactly what I would expect it to do and it works perfectly fine.

Good product
Good product. It stores my digital data and is rugged. The cable is different from the first time I purchased this product (usbc v. usb) but this issue is not too great for me because I purchased this product a time earlier when it wasn't this way, so I use the old one. I can see it being inconvenient for new customers. Despite this, I recommend this product.

good drive but not enough capacity for my purposes
careful of the 2TB limit. My computer needed more space to back up...

Reliable and Tough—Pricey but Worth It
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆ (4/5 stars) Reliable and Tough—Pricey but Worth It The LaCie Rugged Mini 2TB drive is definitely on the expensive side, but it does what it promises. I’ve used it for backups and file transfers, and it’s been fast, consistent, and durable. The rugged design gives peace of mind—especially if you’re on the move or working in rough environments. USB 3.0 speeds are solid, and it’s backward compatible with USB 2.0, which helped with older systems. No setup needed—just plug and go. It’s a bit bulkier than sleeker drives, but that’s the tradeoff for the shock resistance and water-resistant casing. Pros: Reliable performance with USB 3.0 Rugged build—shock, rain, and pressure resistant Plug-and-play simplicity Trusted brand for creatives and pros Cons: Higher price than similar-capacity drives Slightly bulky for ultra-portable setups
