Godsend to all fish keepers
If you keep anything aquatic that relies on a heater, then you need one of these in your life. You spend good money on expensive heaters only to trust the life of your fish into something that it turns out - can kill them if the cut off fails. The other day we walked in from work to find our Fox-face lying on the bottom of the tank, his colour had turned completely black & he was gasping for breath. Upon touching the glass of the tank it was hot, so immediately we knew something had gone very wrong with the heaters.Turns out one heater had completely packed in & the other had gone into overdrive & failed to cut out, thus the tank was now running at 38 degrees. We had to not only invest in 2 new heaters but also something to prevent this from ever happening again. So, this was now time to invest in that item I'd seen before & had on my wish list for some time, with the hopes we would never need it - the thermostat which will keep everything in check instead of depending on a heater actually cutting out.Turns out there are a few to pick from, to suit different types of animals, but this particular model is designed for aquatic tanks. So, the Ink bird works by monitoring the temperature in the tank & then cutting the power to the heaters. When the temperature drops below what you set it at, then it switches the power back on for the heaters to bring it back up to the temperature you want it to reach. So in our case, we have put the probes in the sump & set the lower temperature to 26.0 & the upper temperature to 26.3. This pretty much keeps it at an ambient steady 26 degrees. You can set it within 0.1 of a degree, so it is very accurate. The low-temperature alert has been set to 24.5 & the high alert has been set to 27.5. When the temperature of the tank reaches either of these, then an alarm sounds & also sends notifications to our phones. Thankfully the only time this has happened was when I accidentally changed the alert temperature whilst setting it up.I found this was very easy to set up. I literally downloaded the app & followed the instructions. The biggest annoyance was setting it up before I put the probes in the sump which meant when I set the temperatures then the alarm went off.So when you look at the device, then the actual temperature is the top one & the bottom one is the target temperature. when you look at the app, then you can view the temperature, the alert temperatures & also see a graph of the trend throughout the day with an option to convert to a CSV file, if that's your thing.PROS:• Easy to set up• Easy to use• Comes with a warranty for peace of mind• Comes with long cables on the probes• Easy to use app• Very responsive• Free app which works well with your phoneCONS:• No volume control on the alarm. whilst its loud when outside the tank, if it's located in the sump then it's not as easy to hearVerdict:5 stars - great product, Would recommend. Everyone who keeps aquatic creatures would be wise to invest in one of these as it costs far less than the cost of replacing a fish, let alone a whole tank full of them. Since we installed this device, we now have total peace of mind that we are not going to walk in to find our fish cooking.Very happy with this item.

Excellent! Great peace of mind
Fantastic build quality, connected to my phone without me even trying via already installed smart apps. The 2 temp sensors have good reach which meant i can have them at exact opposite locations. Most of all the worry of a heater going bad and boiling my fish has gone, and any problems, i receive a notification wherever i am to my phone, As well as it sounding an alarm at home. A***

mostly good
This is a great investment as a failsafe to a heather getting stuck on, and to get warnings if it fails.I have configured it so that the heather is set to 25 degrees, and the controller between 24 and 26, with an alert if the temperature goes either ways. This way, if the heather fails and the temperature drops I'll receive an alert, and if it gets stuck I'll receive an alert and it will be disconnected. However, the instructions are very poorly written. There could be a bit more settings around the double probes (e.g. can I only use one? Can I offset either of them?). It's a waste to have two plugs only for heating: it would be better to have heating and cooling, and if I need to plug multiple devices then I can split each. The temperature graph on the app is almost unreadable, because on a very large scale that doesn't suit aquariums and you have to keep clicking to get the various readings.

Great devise!
This is exactly what I was after for my fish tank. Works perfectly once paired to 2.4ghz network. Setup via the app was easy. Changing and checking temperature is easy to do and able to manage away from home easily. Looks to be good quality and hoping will last for a long time :)

Reassuring investment
So this is my cycling Aquarium.I have heard stories about heater failure and getting stuck.I suffer from anxiety issues & panic attacks so having a combination of both if a heater failed or constantly worrying about the heater is not good in the slightest. The inkbird has already allowed me to really relax if the temperatures jump or drop it tells me immediately via the app and pop up's.The temperature seems to be about right when checked against a analog thermometer so really good. The bills!Normally my heater was coming on once maybe every 30mins probably for a mintute or two this is using uneccessary amounts of electricity. And also this means my heater is not getting additional loads applied on it now unless my inkbird detects temperature below 25c it does not turn the heater on this means the inkbird is not powering the socket so no power in the socket. The alarm is a little loud but it's not too bad.The probes are not too obstructive i keep mine close together but one slightly higher than the other to just give more accurate readings. The wires can look a bit messy if you haven't got anywhere to hide them i have a ikea kallax shelving unit.so i can hide the wires behind a storage cube like in my picture which is where my arcade machine, aquarium air line, led lighting wiring etc live out of sight but easily accessible. At the end of the day is this essential with a new tank well no but it is on my advised items to get along with test kits filters etc?Definitely it gives a massive amount of reassurance and you're fish is going to appreciate it if something goes wrong.
