Arkam Original Beard Straightener

Alright, I bought this for my husband almost 6 years ago when he was wearing a beard. It was apparently only a phase, he's been clean-shaven for years now, and I forgot about this device until I recently found it buried in my closet. I decided to try it as a straightening brush for my hair, and am pleased to say that it works well. The unit itself is simple; plug into the wall, click the only button on it until it's flashing one of the four heat settings, let it warm up for a minute or two and go. The nubs at the ends of the bristles do not transfer any heat, so I brush the whole way to my scalp without any discomfort. Watch it when brushing the underside of the hair, though, the top of the brush head does get hot like any other curler/straightener. I have thick, below shoulder length, curly, coarse hair (it's a mix of curl patterns ranging from 3B to 4A) and I used this on the highest setting after drying my hair first with heat protectant. I used a volumizing brush dryer (the Revlon one has been all over Tiktok and Buzz Feed) and it gets my hair straight, but it's still frizzy no matter what heat protectant or serum I put in it first. I used this beard straightener on the highest heat setting and brushed it through with slow passes and my hair was straighter, but more importantly much smoother. Very happy with this, the smaller size still gets the job done in only a few minutes, and it would work on shorter hair, too. I would buy this again.

This works as advertised. However, after purchasing it, I trimmed my beard so I don't use it now. When I was using it, it worked really well to straighten my beard. My advise, follow the instructions and dampen your beard before straightening it. This thing gets hot and could burn/damage your beard if done dry...but all that's in the instructions.

I decided to grow out my goatee. I have had a beard/goatee for most of my life and, since I'm working from home, figured I would try. I have never had it longer then a #3 blade on a trimmer so didn't know what it would look like. Well, I had no idea that you could have a cowlick in a BEARD! There was no way I was going to use one of those beard straighteners that looks like a flat iron. Too much work, plus I don't trust that type of heat so close to my face! When I read about ionic brushes I started to research and found this one. It had great reviews so I figured I would try. While it doesn't get rid of the cowlick, it makes it much better and easier to groom. Using the brush is simple, just plug it in and choose one of the 3 heat settings. It heats up quickly too. The entire brush head heats up, but the end of the bristles are covered so that the heat never burns your face. All you need to do is to run the brush slowly through your beard and it will straighten your facial hair, simple as that! I find that angling the brush so the bristles point downward gives better results. With my hair being curved almost 90 degrees to the left, it didn't completely straighten it, but it did a great job. Not only did it straighten the hair, it also made my beard look fuller. It was definitely much easier to style too. If you are looking to grow out a beard, but don't like it getting all grizzly and wild looking, this is a great solution. It works very well and, more importantly, won't burn your face or hair.

This really keeps my beard nice and smooth. Has multiple heat settings, heats fast and does the job well. Really great for the price.

Not sure why all the positive reviews, it works ok, but doesn’t straighten that great, still wavy and doesn’t seem to get that hot. I like how it makes it difficult to burn yourself however.

I've been using this for a couple of months now to help control my moustache as I'm growing it out to a handlebar. It's designed in a way that the heating elements won't touch your skin but will comb through your hair. It takes about two minutes for it to reach max temperature, which is pretty hot, but it would be difficult to burn yourself. It is possible to burn your hair, though, so you do want to keep it moving as you're combing through. I make sure my moustache is wet and I also add a little beard balm to protect from the heat. Water will turn to steam while using this, and it sometimes pops a bit, so there is still some risk of burns. This has really helped with controlling my moustache and keeping it neat. It will not leave moustache or beard hair perfectly straight. Nothing but a chemical straightener will do that. Heat and water help break the hydrogen bonds that cause your hair to curl and have kinks, but it's a very temporary fix. I've read some reviews claiming this doesn't work, but I think people just have the wrong expectations. The comb's teeth are fairly far apart and not very fine, but I think that's a necessary compromise. Would be nice to have an easy way to clean this. The storage bag is nice and appreciated. I don't know how durable this will be, but for now it's working very well.

Wow. I had very low expectations about this product to start. I really only purchased it because I was searching for beard care items, I had a gift card, this was on sale, and the reviews were made it sound promising. I figured "It's free so why not? When it inevitably fails, I'll just return it" I'm happy to say that this comb is superb! I have thick, coarse, and curly beard hair; which is common among black folks. So when I see a product that claims to be a hair straightener that isn't chemically based, I assume it won't work for me. To my surprise, it really did work quite well. It doesn't completely straighten it like it would for white folks but it gets pretty damn close if you use it at its highest setting. It takes about 3-5 minutes to heat up to max and a few strokes makes my beard wavy and more managable. My first time using it, I realized just how long my beard actually was. Instead of it being bushy, I got to see some length to it. This made it easier to trim and style. For best results, use it after getting out of the shower, after conditioning it, or when in a hurry, after applying some beard oil. BE CAREFUL. At max setting the first stroke will burn your face if you miss your hair. Not badly enough to leave marks but it's still not pleasant. It really only takes a few brushes to see the results. Comb it completely, shape it with your hands, and use a regular comb to smooth it out. The double sided comb that comes with the straightener is ok. It's sturdy and compact but it doesn't really work for me. I use a longer toothed comb or pick to tease out the chin and underneath. Maybe it'll work better for others. No matter though. Fantastic. Remember to use oils when using this or it will fry your hair on the highest setting...It get so hot u can see the steam come out. 2nd level is the sweet spot. Use for my Hair and beard.
