Works fine, Dells require compatible OEM charger
For Dell notebooks you might need an original OEM charger. These size reducers don't generate the special I2C "I'm a Dell" signal, but I wouldn't expect them to. I wish someone made such a part to do that, you have to hack your power supply signal on your own if you can't find an older/cheaper Dell that already supplies the signal.Worked for me but I had an original Dell 130W Blue LED tip charger, it was an old spare and I used these adapters to reduce the size to fit my new Dell 17 5000 notebook. I know Dell is very picky with their power supplies, I've read that Lenovo sometimes is too, and replacement batteries need special chips too. My other third party chargers don't have the special I2C power supply data identifiers so my Dells don't like to charge with those, they just run at whatever the battery was at, plug it in at 40% charged and it stays there all day.I suspect my notebook wouldn't like the really old Dell white LED tips either, but when these reducers are used with the Dell "Blue" LED power supplies it happened to work just fine and pass the special signal from my original Dell OEM charger to the notebook.

These things work as advertised.
Who would believe that a laptop manufacturer like Dell would keep changing the power connector? Gee. Now you need a spare for when you travel. More $$. Those Dell power supplies have a little pin in the middle which is connected to a single wire memory device within the power supply. Thus, your machine will know if you plug in the wrong power adapter and make annoying popups about it. This gizmo has that middle pin and it fits over the older laptop adapter and now it fits in the smaller hole charging port on your new laptop. Way cool and a money saver. Now I see that the yet newer laptops are only coming out with a USB3 charger??? Really? Hopefully these guys can come up with something similar for the next time I need to buy a new laptop. A great product.

the outside of the smaller barrel seems a bit too small
I think the female plug inside the dell laptop is misshapened from having the power supply dc plug inadvertently jerked out by a running dog, or my errant leg too many times. I haven't tested the power supply that came with the computer, but its probably not damaged. This adaptor was less expensive than a new power supply, because I have old dell power supplies w the 7mm diameter barrel, but they output the same dc voltage and amperage as the power supply with the 4mm barrel. When I first tried the adaptor, it was not charging the battery. So I inserted the tip of a white plastic toothpick in the power supply hole of the laptop, and then inserted the power adaptor dc barrel, it began working properly. After that, I discovered that I needed to immobilize the cord down the left side of my laptop lap desk to prevent the adaptor from moving. Movement would cause the adaptor to stop charging. Thus, the white breadbag clip and the spring clamp in the second photo. I know its not elegant, but it works, and keeps me from having to dissassemble the laptop to replace the jack.

Works great on my Dell Inspiron
Laptop has smaller port but a couple months ago the Dell charger it came with popped up a "power supply not recognized" message and stopped charging it up. It kept it running but the battery was slowly going down by about two percent per week. It was down to 60%. I replaced the battery a year ago so I knew the battery is still very decent. Had two other Dell power cords at home but both have the fat tip. Purchased adapter, used it last night, and within an hour the laptop is back up fully charged. YAY!!!

Supports HP laptop power supplies as well
I don't want to carry the 230W P/S brick that came with our new HP Victus 16.1" laptop, and wanted a second P/S to use in a remote location. This adapter let me use a (MUCH CHEAPER) HP branded charger for another model with the large barrel connector. Works a treat and now I don't have to lug the big brick back and forth!

Only lasted few weeks....
First one lasted little over a month, second one lasted little longer than first one but eventually stopped working after few months of light use.Even though description says it has manufacturer warranty, there are no manufacturer contact information on how to claim warranty.

Internal Flimsy and Could Break Connection
The product worked well initially but over time the ground connection can break internally if the person using the laptop consistently exerts too much force. The 90 degree bend breaks internally and is the weakest point. If you do a continuity test with a multi-meter on the plug for the ground connection, you will hear it ring only when you flex the 90 degree bend. Both power tips worked fine for some time but eventually failed for the same reason.

Works ok, with a few issues
Ordered a 2 pack of these. Keep in mind older Dell chargers are typically less powerful than the newer ones so using this adapter may not be an ideal long term solution. I'm using this with an older Dell charger with a watt rating lower than the 130W charger it is replacing. When I boot up the laptop displays a warning message that I'm using a charger with insufficient power that may cause the charger to overheat. My other issue is one of these adapters already has bent and no longer works. I suppose that's my fault for not being careful with it but these aren't bulletproof. That's ok as I really just got these to provide options in pinch, but don't expect them to be a long term replacement.
