Hoyle Board Games [Old Version]

Overall, I like the games on this disc (I have the 2005 version so not sure how it differs to more recent versions). However, the previous reviewer is absolutely right - by law of averages the computer-oponent should not have as many great dice rolls as they do. If ever you have a single counter exposed anywhere on the board, you can always guarantee that it will get knocked off by the exact number on the dice every single time. You stand a much better chance of winning against a human opponent because the dice wouldn't be loaded. I do like some of the characters such as Hedda (although a bit overly-stereotyped she's great fun with her stern German accent). I'm not sure about a talking tyrannosaurus rex though! The only drawback is that I ran this on a new PC with Vista on it, and although it plays fine, you can't get access to rules of the game because when you click on this button, it says "can only be accessed in a previous version of windows".One reviewer said that they sent their disc back because it didn't have the traditional board games on it. I can only think they've bought another disc by mistake because this CD certainly does have all the classic board games such as chess, drafts (checkers in the USA), backgammon etc. A very good CD all around, but they could have designed the backgammon game to be fairer.

It is a fun game except that some of the games cheat! If any luck is involved (cards, dice, etc.) the computer player will always get what it needs to beat you. In backgammon and parcheesi, the computer player will throw doubles 50% of the time. The odds are rediculous!!! In backgammon, if the computer has only the sixes spot blocked when you are captured, you will throw double sixes - gauranteed! better stick to chess, checkers, and reversi.

I thought thiscd board games was wonderful and the things you can do to have animation play along and some you get to create. You get 18 games of Hoyle and you can make plays plus use any voice the game has to offer and when done they will talk as you play. Some times move something to distract you as you play them. I love the Parrot, T-Rex, Bear and Alien they have. Some humans are animated too and it gets funny at times or you can turn them off. It's unique. It plays on windows XP and some others, but a little older version. You should try it some time when there's nothing to do or on TV. The bird loses his feathers and then gets them back and I lose my focus on the game we play and lose. I learning his ways so now I can win better. Try this game it's fun!!!! Feel free to talk back to him with your creation you made. OOOPS T-Rex is calling and so I better start playing the Chinese Checkers. (JV.)

screen is too small, and it doesn't have zen bones in it. good delivery on the item - no problem there, but I wish Hoyle would put out a later board game version like their old 1998 version for loading into later model computers.

OK but a chess player doesn't need a lot of the stuff on the disk. A simple chess program would be better.

This is a great CD that all family members enjoy. Granddaughter aged 9, grands 19, 20, 22 and I (senior) love to get on Mom Mom's computer to play these. I had a little bit of a hard time locating this but it was worth looking for; I found it on Amazon. I lost my original CD. Hoyle has many different yet similar CD's. This one is titled Hoyles Games 2005. It works on xp and windows 7. It is the best!!!

This product is better than I expected to be. Bought it for Backgammon which is a favourite game of mine. It also has a host of other fun games. You can create an avatar with lots of choices for your avatar's appearance. You are also offered the choice of playing with one of the computer personalities over the others.Loads of fun.
