After splitting firewood for nearly five years with just the grace of God protecting my maul from a lot of gnarly eucalyptus rounds, I decided to buy one of these handle savers before I ended up irreparably damaging the tool. I'd tried to find a handle saver for my axe-eye maul at my local hardware stores, but had no success; checked Amazon and voila!I'd been using a hunk of radiator hose for the same purpose, but it didn't stay on more than a couple of weeks before the duct tape gave way and I had to stop splitting and start taping. Though I have great respect for radiator hose and duct tape, Trust me, these handle protectors are a much better solution.

These Handle Savers are extremely useful, and I use them on all my mauls, sledgehammers, and axes, even the ones with a fiberglass or polyethylene handle. They can be a wee bit hard to install, but if you RTFM and put them in hot water for a few minutes, they're much easier to install. I do wish that Amazon provided a bit more info on the sizes and styles available, but you can find it from the manufacturer at [...] This is an inexpensive, one-piece product which will pay for itself many times over. Good stuff.

Ok, everyone knows Fiskars claims their axe handles are indestructable and they are not. I have been through three of them in five years. If you put this puppy on there the extra weight helps it split better and the handle is probably close as you can get to indestructable besides steel which is heavy as hell. Trick is to heat it up in boiling water and then spray pam on your fiskar splitting axe. With some force it will slide on.

I have damaged many sledge/maul handles in the past. This device protects the handles and will pay for itself. You will buy fewer replacement handles.

Hard to find part to fix axe handle. This works great.
