The Weekly Curriculum Book: 52 Complete Preschool Themes

Great tool for Stay at Home Moms
I purchased this book to use at home with my 3 year old. After teaching her colors, shapes, letters and numbers, I found myself struggling to come up with other creative lessons. I like the idea of weekly themes. I pick a theme for the week and every day, we do a little activity from the plans. I really like that there is a list of suggested books that go along with the theme. Although it is designed for a classroom, I found a lot of the activities were easy to modify for home use.I felt compelled to write a review because someone gave bad marks for the book not being a weekly curriculum because it only has a week in November and December. Those plans are found in the Special Days and Holidays section. There is also a Science theme section, Me andmy World theme, Art theme and Miscellaneous theme sections that are not assigned to a specific date. So all together there are in fact atleast 52 weekly themes. I hope the reviewer realized this and did not return the book. It would be a shame to miss out on what this book has to offer.

Very nice variety of lesson plans and themes for preschool kids
Very nice variety of lesson plans and themes for preschool kids. Didn't expect the themes to be so particular to a certain date. I'd prefer more versatile themes, community workers, family, colors, textures, different climates and habitats, different kinds of people, etc...Still, very well done and laid out in a teacher-friendly manner!

My current favorite preschool resource!
I have been using this book to teach my two kids (4 and 2) at home for the last four weeks. We have all loved it. I love that I can choose whatever theme is the most interesting to my kids (so far we've done caterpillars and butterflies, exploring color, mothers for mother's day, and quilts) and the prep time is very minimal. My kids love the activities, and they are learning lots of stuff, too! I usually spend between 30 and 60 minutes on the preschool activities each day, including reading the books that are suggested to go along with the weekly themes. I have been really impressed with the book lists included with each theme. If you are looking for more of a "unit study" approach to preschool, I would highly recommend this!

Great Resource
This book is a great resource book, especially for books to incorporate into your lessons. I don't care too much for how it is organized. I feel like it jumps all over the place and there are now specific lessons for teaching the alphabet or numbers. I also don't care too much for how there are several weekly lessons that focus on a specific day, like August 6th "Wiggle Your Toes Day" for a week of lessons. I thick it would be better come up with weekly lessons seperate from specific days. It would still be great to still include these fun days, but maybe in a seperate section, that would allow the teacher to incorporate into that specific day's lesson plan rather than focusing on that one day for a whole week. The book is fun and has great ideas and lessons for dramatic play, music, cooking, math, science, games, art, etc. The list of books to use with lessons is such an awesome help and tool in and of itself.

Great for preschool at home!
I have an almost 3 year old and I just wanted a book to give us some structure for a little "schooling" at home. It's great because it obviously gives you a theme for the week and then a few activities. Kids love routine and repetition and this is great. Every morning while my younger son is napping we do 1-2 activities out of the book for the week. He loves that he's learning about the same things all week. No matter what we are doing I try to incorporate the theme. I also go to the library weekly and get books (that are recommended in the book) that corespond with the theme. It's exactly what I was looking for.

Quite a larger book than I expected but there is more than enough inside to help me with my classes. I am teaching English in South Korea. This has been a great way to reminisce about my early childhood learning and give that little bit of culture to the children here. Thank you Ms. Backer for your work!

Lame.
Not actually a "weekly" curriculum for each week of the year. It starts with first 2 weeks then skips to one lesson for October and so on. It's very generalized, giving you really just them ides for periods of time and/seasons. Lame.
