As a tea drinker, I boil water several times daily. I've had two earlier kettles of this same type by Proctor Silex. I loved how they worked, but they each had had the same design flaw - the electrical attachment (you plugged directly into the kettle) would come loose over time and eventually fail (after 1-2 years). I had bought them because I loved their speed, convenience, low price, and their balanced, very comfortable-to-use ergonomic design.After the second one failed (about 2 years back) I sadly gave up on these great kettles and went to using a hot plate and tea kettle. When I decided that was just not satisfactory (and not as safe - burn risks and no auto shut-off), I went back and looked at Proctor Silex kettles again and lo and behold! they had greatly improved the design. The kettle now sits on a base and the electrical connection is at the top of an about 2.5" tall square post that fits up into the handle and holds the kettle in place. I think not even I could misalign this no matter how hard I try! I am so pleased!I just love this kettle - it's sleek looking, light, well-balanced, easy to clean and fast, and I hope to have it working well for many years. So, kudos to Proctor Silex for recognizing and correcting that problem, and I hope and plan not to have to modify this review through disappointment in a year. So far, it is a wonderful kettle!

I LOVE this thing. It heats up super fast and shuts itself right off, but the water remains hot for a while. Tip--water does get REALLY hot in this pot which is to be expected for anyone with common sense. Don't take a huge swig of your tea or whatever right after pouring. I bought two, one for work and one for home, because they were inexpensive. Glad I did. I can keep this at my desk for tea and soup and not have to deal with the office microwave.

This review is the opinion of the author. This kettle is actually well made and deserves all 4 of the stars I gave it. First off, lets start off with why it is only 4 stars. You have boiling hot water inside this thing, and to open the lid you have to yank on the plastic top until it pops out. There is no release, no latch, no nothing. It is held closed by friction of the plastic and can be hard to open. This could easily result in a burn when you yank on it and scalding water sloshes everywhere if you are not careful EVERY TIME you open. A simple push button release would have been much more safe.Other than that it is a great kettle that heats up water fast. It turns off automatically which is also great. The size is perfect for almost any amount of boiled water you might need on a daily basis. It boils fast and hot. It's a great kettle for the price you pay.

I use this kettle every day and I love it. It boils the water in under 3 min and that is really inportant to me as I don't have a lot of time to wait for water to boil. I use it to make coffee in the morning in my french press and tea in the evening. I also use it to boil water in when I need to defrost a sauce packet for frozen egg rolls or a hot oil treatment for my hair. It is fairly quite so I can use it in the kitchen without worrying about waking my roommate that sleeps in the living room. :D

Highly recommend this product! I previously had another Proctor Silex Kettle that lasted for at least 5 years. Automatic shut-off works great. I bought & returned another kettle from Target that cost $5 more & the auto shut-off didn't work at all.

This kettle worked great...for 1.5 years. We used it every day, sometimes multiple times a day (I love tea!), but then one day the on/off switch just stopped working so it wouldn't turn on anymore. First the switch was a little flaky, like you'd press it down and it would light up for a second and then go dark, but it wasn't wiggly or anything, so it didn't feel like a loose connection. Then a few days later, nothing. No light, no power. Dead. Dead. Dead.On the plus side, for those 1.5 years It did heat quickly, and was a good little kettle, but I like my appliances to last a little longer than this. My previous kettle, (not this brand but a model I can't find anymore) lasted 15 years! This was its replacement. Now I'm back shopping for a new one. I don't think it will be this brand.

In the short time I had with this unit, it has pleasantly satisfied my expectations! My need to drink hot beverages has been made easier and faster. If it lasts me 6 months and then breaks, I would still buy again! It is straight forward the best source of hot water for my daily usage.The delivery is awesome and the though the packaging was only in the Proctor Silex box itself, the item was in perfect condition.
