Magnum MSH3012M Inverter/Charger, 125 amp

The same local utility that burned down our home also took out the inverter in our RV. I needed a replacement and looked for an upgrade. There were complaints about another manufacturer outsourcing their customer service and so I chose Magnum Energy. I had a question and called them and got a US-based technician to answer a question or two. I wanted an upgrade and so chose the MSH3012M.There were a number of reasons I chose this model. First, I wanted more power so went from the failed 15 year old 2000 watt Dimensions model to the 3000 watt. The original was a pseudo-sine wave; the MSH3012M is a true sine wave. Without going into the electronic differences, any appliance that can plug into a standard outlet will run with a true-sine wave inverter. This is particularly good for things like computers, microwaves, and other electronics.The greatest benefit of the MSH3012M is that it is a "Hybrid" inverter. In my case, my shore power is 15 amps (a standard household outlet). I am also on about 100 feet of extension cord. Before I had to turn off the fridge and other large loads to run the microwave. Not now! If the MSH3012M senses a draw greater than the programmed max, it uses the inverter circuit to "add" amperage from the batteries, invert them to AC and add that to the shore power. We can now forget about turning off the fridge or other AC loads and just use the microwave as we choose.We added the following units to add functionality to the MSH3012M: • Magnum Energy Advanced Remote Control with Digital LCD Display and 50' Cable (ME-ARC50). This displays a lot of information about the operation of the MSH3012M as well as adding a lot of control functions. • Magnum Energy ME & MS Series Battery Monitor Kit. This sends additional data to the MSH3012M to more accurately charge the batteries. • Magnum Energy ME-SBC Smart Battery Combiner. This allows the MSH3012M to charge the house batteries as well as the motor batteries.IMPORTANT NOTE: If upgrading to a larger capacity unit be aware that other changes may have to be made. In particular, I had to upgrade from 2/0 battery cables to 4/0 cables. I purchased cable cutters and lug crimpers and made all my own cables, but this is likely beyond the average RV owner's ability, so be sure to read all instructions and requirements for all modules before purchase. This upgrade would likely have cost me around $4000 if I had a shop do it... maybe more. The battery cable material alone was about $170. I was able to save about $1000 by doing all the work myself.

Every day I grow more and more annoyed with the humming noise. I've unmounted the inverter and temporarily placed it on a thick, folded towel to see if by isolating the vibration from my RV chassis if it eliminated the noise inside my RV and it does. Problem is that you can't do this permanently for two reasons: heat, and it needs to be mounted when traveling. I don't understand why the manufacturer doesn't produce a mounting kit to isolate the vibration from the surface it is mounted to. I'm looking for 3rd party solutions but they are kind of pricey and may not work so I'd be out the cost of the attempted solution and still not have a solution.

Easy install, reliable power that that is safe for your electronics. Keeps batteries charged per preset settings. Will program AGS next.

Excellent Unit, nice to not run generator during night time. Have used a couple 2D AGM batteries for three years. Recently upgraded to 2D Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries. Double the power storage, quick charging. The MA-ARC remote system, already had the Lifpo4 battery charge profile built in. Overall very pleased with this Inverter/Charger.

Having repaired American Rv's in the UK for some 30years we ordered this Item as a replacement unit only to find that it does NOT work on 50hz even though the specification states an operating range of 50 to 70 hz We contacted Magnum and because it was outside the USA they did not want to know even though all things were within their printed spec I would Avoid this company at all costs as they will not back up their specification sheet .........Anglo American Autocare South Wales UK

I'm having an RV dealer install this for me in the coming week. The price I got on Amazon was about $1,000 less than they were going to charge me at the dealer! He couldn't believe what I could buy it for and was content just to make money by installing it. This is my biggest savings ever on Amazon. The unit itself has a great reputation, which is why I chose it. I'll follow up on this review after it is installed and I've used it - if there are any concerns.

This is just an unbelievably great product. I use it on my 5th wheel and we boondock a lot. I have a Honda EU 2000 watt generator and 2 X 6 volt golf cart batteries for about 230 amp hours of 12 volt storage. My solar consists of about 350 watts of solar panels. With this setup, running the microwave, using my laptop, watching TV, etc become hassle free. We replaced a 2000 watt Xantrex with this unit. No comparison. The hybrid feature and pure sine wave inverter are really no brainers. Because we boondock a lot, I also got the the ARC controller and BMK. Again, really nice setup and easy to use.

I installed the Magnum hybrid and couldn't be happier. The special part of the unit is the load support feature and it woks wonderfully. With my old 3000 watt inverter while using a Honda 2000 generator I always had to change power sources when using 2 high draw appliances. With the Hybrid, just set the incoming shore or generator amperage capability and it automatically kicks in battery energy to make up the rest. In an RV you could plug the shore power into a plan old 15amp outlet and not worry about tripping the breaker when you want to say run the microwave and coffee maker at the same time.
