My husband used this to cut polystyrene to insulate the workshop ceiling cavity suitable for cutting large pieces. It made the job quick and unmessy. Highly recommend these types of tasks- make sure the area you are working in is well ventilated, as it stinks and smokes slightly. We wore masks with the door and windows open.

Use a bread knife instead
Really not very effective at cutting thick foam. I thought it would be like a hot knife through butter but it wasn't. I had to almost pull the foam apart at the same time as trying to cut through it to make it work in any manner. It's quicker and cheaper to get a bread knife out of your drawer and use that.
