As a child, I remember having boxes of German candies sent to us from relatives in Germany and this brand of marzipan covered in chocolate was one of the things we'd receive every Christmas and my father and I always loved it.I wasn't sure how fresh it would be ordering it from amazon, to be honest. However, I was more than pleased and my father was in awe and he's a tough critic when it comes to chocolate covered marzipan.If you aren't familiar with marzipan, it's an almond paste that is very condensed and concentrated. It is sweet with a liquor flavor and covered in a thin layer of dark chocolate. It has a very distinct taste. It's not creamy but it is strong and sweet. It's not for everyone but for those who it IS for, love it! I've bought one other marzipan on amazon that I was disappointed in but this one exceeded my expectations as it was as fresh as when it came to me directly from Germany.

I love the dark chocolate option, and the bite size candies are perfect! But the marzipan is a bit bland, wish it had a stronger almond flavor.

This is my favourite chocolate, and I was looking forward to enjoying it. Unfortunately, the chocolate was discolored and stale. I received the parcel on May 28 and it had a German exipry date of June 14. It had obviously not been kept in an optimal environment, which I very much doubt was due to Niederegger, a prestigious brand, but rather to the American distributor or retailer. The chocolates ended up in the trash can.
